I would have to agree. Very much! I have been using The GIMP 1.3 for some time now, and most of all (apart from all the other amazing new things) the new panel layout is wonderful. I've set mine up to lay in two panels either side of the screen in an almost Photoshop-like layout (though subtly different obviously :P ), and am very happy with it. Thank you Gimp Team!

Now all we need is for a QT drawing app that plugs into the amazing Gimp plugin system ;)

 GTK 2.2.2+

by Yaba on: Nov 11 2003

I have RedHat 9, which unfortunately ships with GTK 2.2.1. But Gimp 1.3 requires at least GTK 2.2.2.

Has someone installed Gimp 1.3 and GTK 2.2.2+ on RedHat 9? Is it safe to upgrade the installed system GTK or should I install GTK 2.2.4 in a different location?

They are 2 different librbarys, some apps still need GTK 1.x and others (newer) need GTK 2.x So keep GTK 1.x or else some things just wont work.

Of course I will keep GTK 1.x. I've talked about GTK 2.2.x. My question was, if a upgrade of GTK 2.2.1 to GTK 2.2.4 will break some of my GTK 2.x applications like Gnome 2?

 STOP

Please people, fi your goign to make a poll don't be so shortsighted and essentially force people to accept your guesses. Polls are a learning tool, don't assume you know everything.

There are more problems in this poll than I can count finger son my right hand.

1. "Which image manipulating program do you use mostly"

Should read: Which image manipulation program do you most use?

Please at least make sure your questions comply with standard and necessary English rules.

2. "Gimp 1.2.x (Stability rulez)"
Don't put words into your voter's answer that are not relevant. "Stability rulez" is not necessary, and it will force people to agree with you taht that is indeed the reason that they are using it.

3. "Gimp 1.3.x/pre2.x (it's stable enough)"
Again same problem, let them comment on why, don't decide for them, polls are used to learn.

4. "PhotoPaint on Linux"
Again, you are forcing them to agree that they use it on linux while in fact they could use it on Windows or through WINE.

5. "Photoshop on the other partition"
Same stupid mistake, Photoshop on other partition autoamtically forces visitors to agree that that is how they use it if they do, while in fact they could use CrossOver Office 2.1 as I do.

6. "Paintshop on the other partition"
again, read above your the one trying to learn, so let them tell you.

7. "PhotoPaint on the other partition"
This is irrelevant to the question which aske which program was most used not how it was used. it is just as relevant as asking someone in 3 questions various positions that they could sit on their chair while using the GIMP. There should only have been one choice for this called Photopaint.

8. "You ignoramus forgot to list my favourite program"
This is not really a problem, but the "Other" option is usually listed last and it helps the readers find their option faster if you list it last.

9. "I never expose my privacy in stupid polls"
This has NO POINT, if somebody does not want to tell you they wont and they dont need an option for it. This has no relation to the basic question of the most recently used image manipulation program. Furthermore, calling the poll stupid is a diss towards this website and its content, while it si true this poll was stupid, you shouldn't diss yourself. if you had to include that you should of only said something like "I do not wish to say"
_____________________________________

This is sad, that this poll has more problems than it does options! Please, next time spend just 5 minutes to make sure what you write is coherent.

I think you are taking polls way too serious. All such polls are just for fun and not for scientific evaluations. If it shall be a serious poll, there are much more infos and precautions required.

And sorry for not beeing a native English speaker. I appreciate corrections and will correct them.

As for your points 4 and 7: I *do* think, that it makes a difference if you use PhotoPaint native on Linux (which implies Wine) or if you use it on Windows. Obviously you haven't ever used PhotoPaint on Linux.

WRT to point 9: Of course it has no point. This was for people that understand humour.

Hope you will never see a poll on Slashdot. You'll be horrified by it ;-)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
