Well, i voted efficiency, but i would like to point out that what is efficiency for me is not necessarily efficiency for others :) As such, well, costumizability is really quite heftily important :)

What you said about efficiency can also be applied to "Looks". (At least that's my opinion. ;)

I think that customizable sums all the other things up, thats why I chose it. I like to do things my way, that's important to me.

I second that. My first DE was Gnome (when I first started to use Linux), but it was so un-customizable that I switched to KDE.

I hope KDE4 will be even more customizable than 3.

It would be interesting to see what gnome-look users would vote, too.

I'd love to see the results too :) My guess is "simplicity" (although "looks" could also win).

 well, efficiency

Is it possible to vote for something else ?

Well, I'dd sayt that at least :
speed
available support
customizable
many functions
simplicity

are all included in the thing I call efficiency...

It lets the choice from look and other...
Well, look ? I don't mind using CLI apps if they are more efficient ( eg: LaTeX (ok, in kile ^^ ) vs Kword/OOoWriter/MSWord) or instaling with 'instalcommand softwarename' in yakuake instead of the GUI provided by my distro. And if it were that important, I would not have disabled compiz to 'plain' Kwin, wich I find much more functional, even if less visualy apealing.

So look, not that much, even if I have to admit that GNOME with plastik theme is much more apealing to me than with the usual one ( the only screenshot of gnome I find good is one with plastik... Well, can't understant all those people saying KDE looks bad compared to GNOME, I just think the oposite )

But coming back to main() subject, I think efficiency is for anyone a balance in all the ineriting classes, hum, other items. For one, it's speed (may use xfce), for another, it's simplicity ( goto gnome ?) or customisability (hey, KDE is here for you). Look is just a bonus point, and can be suited beter by any WM folowing your needs.

I want both customizabilty and simplicity. Silly Gnome people, they think you can only have one!

To me efficiency is THE most important thing. And that means, handy keyboard shortcuts and plenty of dekstop space. This approach leads one to minimalistic window-managers, but I chose efficiency. To me, KDE < metacity (because it starts faster than kwin) + fbpanel + failsafe < fluxbox. KDE is lowest because everytime I delete .kde (my quota is limited), I need to re-configure everything... takes just too much time. An idea could be to offer profiles: destop-rich/minimalistic/moderate(default).

Then, KDE and Gnome share same problem of offering less desktop space. What's up with ugly non-standard "new" K-menus in opensuse and similar in Gnome? And the default themes suck! And one needs to install KDE themes by compiling them, so I am out of luck.

I end up chosing enlightenment. Now only if those developers could implement a system tray -- aaargh!

"everytime I delete .kde (my quota is limited), I need to re-configure everything... takes just too much time." - you could reconfigure KDE, then save this config to an USB Flash or something, then if you need to delete .kde, you can restore the needed config in seconds.

"What's up with ugly non-standard "new" K-menus in opensuse and similar in Gnome?" - I don't think it's a KDE problem. Distro can do whatever they want (as long as it doesn't violate the license).

It's not just that... you know...

Like, all the applications store there config in .kde/ May be to some it is better design approach, not for me. Then big menus/buttons everywhere... going to be bigger in KDE4.

Yes, I am a minimalist I guess.

For me, the fact that KDE is customizable is what makes it efficient.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
