I loaded Freespire a few times and It really is crisp looking. The realistik icons, the logo, wallpaper...just nifty gorgeous.

Yet it was just skinning an older KDE...not worth the sacrifice I thought.

I actually purchased SUSE 10.1 and thought it had many slick and yummy things about it...visually. I of course went back to PCLINUX which truly balanced out of the box prettines and out of the box just plain working.

have I tried, since when you had to compile the kernel before you could even boot.
found SuSE, bought it and like it.
the only problem I've had is with a new AMD64 dual core with sound on motherboard, driver cs4236 ?
wont load, cant find kernel module and cant find sound hw !?
so its 'silent running' for now but I'm reasonably sure that it's just new hw and will work with some future update, no worries.

 OpenSuse & KDE

I first tried Kubuntu....and it's okay, but they alter KDE and it doesn't seem all the components are there.

OpenSuse 10.2 RC1 is working great without any restrictions. Clean, fast, and works fine.

For KDE my vote is OpenSuse.

Sabayon linux is nice, comes with all the extras, xgl, or aiglx and is gentoo based.

Although a long time SuSE (since 5.3 all along to 10.0 updated & upgraded to date) user I have to say that I am quit impressed with the default Sabayon KDE settings & look, so much that I'm testing it to make it my future default distro. What can I say: congrats to Sabayon developers&community and looking forward to using it more!

 PCLinuxOS & Sabayon

The sanest defaults for KDE (along with great eyecandy) are offered by either PCLinuxOS (if you're looking for stable release) or Sabayon (for bleeding edge stuff).
I run both and can't make up my mind which is better :)

 Kubuntu 6.10

Personally, I like the Kubuntu 6.10 defaults for overall appearance, but I've not used Sabayon, nor have I used SuSE since the 10.0 release, which was, in my humble opinion, quite nice.

I guess I'm steering the middle road. Kubuntu is my choice, because it's hit a good balance of usability and style, in the default setup.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
