i use kwrite vor _short_ letters and OOo for longer ones, because i neither want to preload OOo nor wait until it loads, when i click on it ^^

XEmacs!

KWrite/Kate is fine, but it just doesn't have that Emacs/XEmacs feel to it. It's not the key bindings, because I hate the Emacs key bindings. It's the way it feels and works. Searches without annoying popup dialogs, autofill depending on the type of document, tab will smart indent, etc.

 OOorg on most counts

by tisource on: Mar 14 2006

Score 50%

OpenOffice.org is slower to load, but none of the other options have either (1) have the features I want, or (2) they're unstable. Kword would be perfect for me, but every time I've tried working in it, it crashes. Although I wait longer for OO.org to run, it gives me what I want.

If there is any "officiality" to what I'm doing (memos, formal letters, etc) OO.org is the ticket.

If I'm simply printing notes or technical docs, kwrite is my preference.

As long as the printing problem in KWord/KOffice is not fixed I will stick to OOo. Where is the benefit of an office suite when I can't even print out a letter? Yeah, I know, it's said that it's a Qt-issue, but in the end it doesn't matter. I really hope this gets fixed (Qt 4?), because I basically like KOffice, especially the progress on Krita is impressive!

LyX is what I use for most of my "structured documents".

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
