By theobroma
Published: Feb 23 2005

The KDE project is looking for a great new logo for our biggest event of the year  - the KDE Developers and Users Conference 2005 (aka aKademy 2005)! This logo will be seen everywhere including on t-shirts, websites and in magazines.

GUIDELINES:
All logo entries must:
* be in the SVG format.
* be 300 dpi.
* must NOT include any gradients.
* must be original.
* must include a transparent wallpaper based on your logo that is a 1024 x  768 PNG.
* must at least be GPL'd but the KDE Artists modified LGPL or a less restrictive license may be a better fit for some artists.
* must be submitted in the Artwork Contests section of kde-look.org. Please include the words "aKademy 2005" in the name field of your submission.

PLEASE NOTE:
The images must not violate any other artists copyright. If you use some artwork that you did not create (e.g. the KDE gear) then you must list the artist and the license or your entry will be disqualified.

PRIZE:
The first place winner will receive the privilege of seeing their logo being used for the most publicized KDE event of the year AND a t-shirt featuring their logo (provided by the aKademy 2005 committee).

JUDGES:
Kenneth Wimer, Tink, Antonio Larrosa and Skullbooks

DEADLINE:
March 7th 2005

--

LOGO IDEAS:

The aKademy is taking place this year in Malaga, Spain. A reference to this in the logo image would be appreciated although it's not necessary.

The name of the conference in Spanish is "Congreso de Desarrolladores y Usuarios de KDE : aKademy 2005"

COLOR PALETTE IDEAS:

The colors of the Spanish, Malaga, or Andalusian flags. (Malaga is located in the Spanish Autonomous Community, Andalusia)

The new KDE color palette

Remember: the last day to submitt your logo is March 7th 2005 so don't wait start working on your images now!

 Colour limit?

Just wondering if there is a limit as to how many colours are allowed. I'd think that the more colours used, the more expensive it would be to print..

this is a simple question but it might also qualify as a stupid question:

why shouldn't there be any color gradient??

This was specified by the commissioners for the purpose of keeping the design simple and easy to print on T-shirts.

Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga. So what about a Picasso-styled logo?

 The accent

It should be noted the place's name is Málaga, not Malaga. In Spanish, accents do matter and they are not things you can just leave out and it makes no difference. For instance, the word "se" is the he/she/it/they reflexive pronoun, but "sé" is "I know." Keep that in mind as you make your designs.

Any KDE user speaking a non-anglican language would know. English is the only language I know of that doesn't use accents... thats why foreigners have such a hard time pronouncing our words.

All Latin, Greek, and Germanic language use these accents over their letters.

And "I know" in French is "Je Sais". Different spelling, same word essentially. Interesting. GO LATIN! :-p

I'm hyper. Whee.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
