Voting scandal!

By theobroma
Published: Jan 7 2005

We have received a huge amount of quality artwork for the KDE SVG Wallpaper Challenge. A lot of people have also voiced their concerns about the voting system here at KDE-Look. They are worried that some of this great artwork will not be even considered by the judges. I realize that the voting system isn't the most accurate and Frank is looking at possible ways to improve this in the future. But for now it is what we got. So what do we do? I have been talking to many KDE-Look users and we have come up with the following solution.

We are going to divide up the judging into two phases.
1. The judges are going to look at ALL the entries and pick their 'Top Ten'.
2. Then judges will pick their top 4 from that list.

"Really overall, we need to be able to trust our judges. That's what they do, judge. They represent the community as a whole and should keep that in mind when making their decision. I would again recommend that this contest be not based on the percentage/downloads. I have faith that the judges will make good decisions." - from an email from Ryan Nickell

I will not be making any more changes to the rules or extending the finish date. That said, I REALLY appreciated everyones input on this:)

Please note: If you are using KDE 3.4 please test as many wallpapers as you can and post your results to each entry.

Click here to the view all the entries.

I agree with the decision to leave the votes to the judges.

This is a fair decision and will premiate the right artwork because I think that the jury is composed by people who know and are interested in the feauture development of kde design.

Once again the open source is an example of right of expression, I'm really happy that the people who talked about the voting scandal were heard and their voice was counted, I also posted my opinion about and I'm happy that a lot of people agreed on that argument.

The feauture of KDE design shoul be built fairly and this is a great day for kde-look.org and the right decision for the community of designers of this web site.

Scarface.

I also prefer this solution to the original plan. I think we all have good faith in the judges and they will be able to make a good decision about the entries. Good luck to all involved, may lady Fortune be nice to you!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
