Distro Challenge Guidelines

By theobroma
Published: Nov 15 2004

There has been some confusion on where to post wallpaper for the challenge.
So I'll post these guildlines.
1. Post your entry to the Wallpaper section.
This is a challenge, not a contest. In the future people searching for wallpaper might not look in the Artwork Contest section and might miss out on your beautiful creation.
2. Put "Distro Challenge" in the title.
3. The wallpaper should be either 1024x 768 or 1280 x 1024.
According to a recent poll over 75% of kde-look users prefer these sizes.

*a few suggestions*
1. Use a GPL compatable licence like: GPL, LGPL, or Creative Commons.
You never know maybe your Distro will want include your wallpaper in their next release.
2. If possible include your source files.
We believe in Open Source after all. Maybe someone will want to make a splash screen from your cool wallpaper.

REMEMBER the wallpapers with the most votes (one from each distro) will be declared the winners.
Don't forget to vote and make comments:)

I think this should be a monthly/bi-monthly, whatever contest..

Also, some of my source files are much too large to upload.. Any suggestions?

I will be happy to regularly post these challenges if people are interested.

About the source files, it was only a suggestion. If you can't - don't worry:)

I also think, that it makes no sense to upload the source files here. However everybody should be aware that, if he releases a wallpaper under the GPL, he has to give the source files, when asked.

So if anybody wants the sources, he should mail the author of a wallpaper. In return the author must be credited when work is released that is based upon the work of others.

But you all know the GPL, don't you? ;-)

To mess up a Linux box, you need to work at it; to mess up your Windows box, you just need to work on it.

 monthly/bi-monthly..

I agree on the monthly/bi-monthly challenge idea. Distro wallpapers are so common; I don't think there'd be much trouble getting entries.

I'd lean toward bi-monthly ones so that people still try and put enough effort into the wallpapers :)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
