Which distro do you run on your Eee? I currently use Ubuntu Eee.

I've never tried Arch. Did you have any difficulties? What works "out of box" and what needs manual configuration?

Currently I use the Xandros that came with the eee 900 as it boots so quickly but I modified it to run fluxbox instead of the easy ui. Hacked bluetooth (a2dp) and touchscreen, it's one of the best laptops/netbooks I've ever had.

Well, i'm actually a KDE user. but i'm also an EeePC 900 owner, so i decided to join (by invitation, btw!)
I installed Kubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron from CD iso image with unetbootin utility. Tried also OpenSuSE livee distros, but they failed.
Soon after that i noticed the disadvantages of Kubuntu tools for EeePC (or, to e more correct - abscence of them). I googled and found www.array.org - one guy offers his repo with custom linux kernel (all needed patches are applied) and tools to control eee easily. I advice you to give it a shot. But be aware that you don't need to delete/overwrite your source.list - just append his repo to existing list.
Also i added a repo to get the KDE4.1.1 on my eee and now i'm really satisfied with this handy little kid :)

 Eee

I have Ubuntu Eee 8.04 installed on my Eee, without the adamm's kernel as it didn't recognize my wireless network at home. I don't know what went wrong for me, but I did however notice the faster boot times and other quite signigicant improvements!

You mean faster boot times with Adam's kernel or with Kubuntu official kernel?

The adamm's custom kernel is the fastest one, so you should try it out as I'm sure you won't experience the problems I had (Wireless home network not being recognized).

The default Kubuntu/Ubuntu kernel is quite fast too though, I've had no problems using it this far.
Even KDE boots up fairly fast. (Note that KDE 3 boots faster than KDE 4 on hte Eee 900 at least).

my eee is running under ubuntu eee.
my 701 takes 1minute to boot (gnome lunched). The most import issue i have with Ubuntu eee is that SD card reader by pass fstab option when it mount a sd card.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
