Stasks is dead. Long live Smooth Tasks...

The Arch Linux PKGBUILD packages a for of stasks, called Smooth Tasks. You can follow its development on http://bitbucket.org/panzi/smooth-tasks/overview/ or get it from kde-look: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/STasks+patched?content=101586

I meant "fork" (not "for"), of course.

Just to correct a misperception: I am not the developer of Smooth Tasks. I only wanted to point out why there were newer packages on Arch Linux.

I am happy to hear that you will continue your work. This is a great plasmoid. Maybe you should consider working together with the developer of Smooth Tasks, since he has already fixed bugs, added features and refactored the code a bit. See the links I posted above for the entry on kde-look and the git repository.

Thanks again, keep it up!

another correction: it's a mercurial repo, not git...

Well, I refactored quite a bit. For once, I renamed all classes. (What's with this prefix notation? C++ supports namespaces!) Also I'm not sure if I placed everything where it's best. (E.g. I'm not sure if everything I have in the ToolTip class should be there.) And I'm not sure whether it's coupled to tight. (I have pointers to the applet in almost every class.)

But yes, I would like to cooperate. However, I can totally understand when mbaszczewskis wants not to. It's a hobby project and as such one wants to make decisions without asking someone for approval. E.g. the refactorings I made are unthinkable in a team project without asking anyone. And if the other one does not like it, well what do you do then? Be an ass and do it anyway? Well that's the end of the teamwork then. It's a small applet (or at least it's not that large) and therefore managing it on your own is feasible. Managing different forks using mercurial/git and merging changes from one fork into another would also be feasible, as long as no such major changes happen like the refactorings I did. Oops.

Anyway, mbaszczewskis, keep up the good work! Looking forward to steal... erm, merge new features/bug fixes you implement into my fork. :)

I'm still waiting for the *ORIGINAL* stasks to be upgraded! ;) I'm using a patched version for KDE 4.3 and I won't switch to any other fork!

Well, then continue to wait. I think the author of smooth-tasks has done a heck of a job, and has been, for the most part, highly receptive to those who suggested new ideas/features. Furthermore, he is quick to credit those who came before him or offered help. Who knows whether the original author was going to go in the same direction. It seems to me that smooth-tasks is highly community-driven, which a welcome sight indeed.

I'm afraid to say that I don't think smooth tasks is that "community driven", I was given an almost "rude" answer to a requested feature (a thing I can find in stasks and not in smooth tasks). Waiting is not a problem. :)

We adopted the patch from ZaWertun and stasks is now working again in Kubuntu Karmic. Thanks for publishing this solution.

A Jaunty package working with 4.3 is in my PPA:

 Expand on caption change

Hi, add please an option to expand task when windows caption is changed when inactive, it is good eg when a communication program changes windows caption to show that there's a new message. It also could disable expanding after becoming active.

Please have a look at:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207812

I can reproduce this bug with openSuSE 11.2 and KDE 4.3.75. (plasmoid-stasks-0.5.1-10.11.i586)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
