The (ahem) "description" just states it's your first plasmoid. The pictures give a hint. Would be nice to know what it is before installing it...

Stasks crashes when NetworkManager is restarted.

Easy to reproduce the crash:

sudo /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart

Hi! Stacks - really great plugin!
But what i really need in this soft it mixing shortcuts and running application icons just like in Windows 7 taskbar or MacOS dock.

I think this is really right UI design - have no difference between running and non-running task, especially on modern computers that can throw 90% types of apps in a second =)

 Further Development?

by WildSioux on: Jun 23 2009

First off, good job on creating this plasmoid. I have been trying this and the "Fancytasks" plasmoid out on my KDE 4.3 beta 2 and this is the only one that doesn't crash plasma.

I hope this is still being developed because it needs further improvement and features. As others have noted, it needs to have some kind of app launcher (Fancytasks has it).

Also, I have finally found a solution to the Gimp showing all windows in the taskbar. Using this Stasks with grouping "on," and a "Specific window" setting for the "Layers" window...all 3 windows (Toolbox, Main Gimp window, and Layers) are all grouped in to one tab in this Stasks!!!

However, a few bugs...I found that you have to set the Gimp window management setting for both Toolbox and other Docks to "Window" mode for this to work. And even then after starting up Gimp, if you minimize the "Layer" window it will detach itself from the Stasks Gimp group and be out on its own.

Right clicking>>"Do not group", then "Group" again sets itself back to being grouped and will stick. Closing gimp, and restarting it however loses this setting. I believe it is a bug in Stasks. But it is a step in the right direction in terms of fixing the gimp failure. And will actually show in the tooltip, along with switch to that window if clicked on!

Also, add features like "Fancytask" to use middle mouse button to minimize and show windows as well as middle click to close.

Thank you!

If you have problems with applets you should report them to authors (I'm using Fancy Tasks with KDE 4.3 beta 2 right now without crashes).

STasks will be developed during this summer, be patient. ;-)

 Stasks makes plasma crash

It seems that Stasks works very well with default definitions, but I'm using it with expand tasks enabled and it makes plasma crashes radomly without touching plasma stuff and without opening new applications.
Sometimes it crashes once, plasma restarts and that's ok. Other times it crashes several times in a short period of time and I have to logout and login again to have plasma started again.
If you need a backtrace, I have one.
Good job and keep going!

When I try to compile Staks for KDE 4.3 RC, I receive this compiler errors:

After some investigations I found out, that the Typedef "AbstractItemPtr" is not anymore part of taskmanager.
See also: http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/KDE/kdebase/workspace/libs/taskmanager/abstractgroupableitem.h?r1=898322&r2=985920

I'm not a coder, so I can not solve this issue.... :(

Oh yes, after updating from Beta2 to the RC I experienced too, that Stasks is not working any more.
Thanks for pointing out the problem to the author, I hope it'll be fixed soon.

BTW: The webbrowser plasmoid got buggy, too, it shows all the webpages unreadably small.

How do you apply it? Must admit that while I do know how to compile from source, applying patches is not something I'm very familiar with...

Never mind. I couldn't get the patch-file to work as-is but after a "manually" patching the files in question it works!

Thanks!

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
