Description:

Yet Another Weather Plasmoid.
There is nothing wrong with the ones that exist, I just wanted something more colorful.

This plasmoid belongs to other people, it would not be where it is without their help. See the README.

Please help with additional themes and translations, thanks.

For the latest unstable version:
svn co https://yawp.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/yawp/trunk yawp

INSTALL NOTES
tar -jxf yawp*
cd yawp*
./install.sh

Changelog:

0.4.5 (23 Mar 2013)
* Bugfix: Desktop mode is not reusing applet size from last session.
* Bugfix: yaWP crashes in systemtray with KDE 4.10

0.4.4 (17 Mar 2012)
* New desktop painter has been added. Yawp can be configured to use the traditional or the new one for desktop and/or for popup window.
* Panel painter has been rewritten
* Initialization stuff of yawp has been moved to init method, because yawp crashes on KDE 4.8 due to the usage of not initialized components.
* Usage of KMessageBox has been replaced within DlgAddCity, otherwise yawp crashes on KDE 4.8.5 (some earlier versions might be included as well).
Using KMessageBoxes within KConfigDialog (yawp settings dialog) still works as expected.
* Google ION has been removed, because Google does not support this service any longer.
* Updating and fixing translations
* Bugfix: yaWP did not update weatherdata periodically after hibernation - it is working now

0.4.3 (17 Apr 2012)
* Show current RealFeel temperature under current temperature (thanks to Alain Soucy)
* Non-modale city search dialog
* Implementing public slot configChanged() to behave like a standard plasmoid - yaWP can be configured from external programs (e.g.: javascript)
* changing internal handling of extender (KDE 4.8 only) - when plasmoid will be used in desktop mode extender is not used and will be destroyed, when plasmoid is moved to panel a new extender will be created
* little tweaks to horizontal panel layout, adding more spaces between icons
* Ukrainian translation updated (Thanks to Yuri Chornoivan)

0.4.2 (04 Jan 2012)
* Adapting yaWP to KDE 4.8
* ION AccuWeather is showing closer maps for cities of the United States.
* Workaround crashes in city search dialog in KDE >= 4.7.4
* Frech and Slovak trasnlation updated
* Fixes in Wunderground ION
* Fix double translation for Short day names

0.4.1 (03 Dec 2011)
* Add ability to open forecast in browser (if URL is provided by ION)
* ION wunderground is returning a sorted list of cities (airport stations are listed on top of list,
because in general terms this station type contains more weather information than the personal weather station type).
* ION Wunderground is supporting satellite maps as well
* ION accuweather is not using a config-file for satellite image mapping any longer (feature has been added in version 0.4.0
but I think this was a stupid idea). Satellite images will be hard coded mapped to location in ION.
* Translations updated (CZ, FR)
* Several little bug fixes - including geometry issues

0.4.0 (13 Nov 2011)
* Bugfix: text in animation area jumps up or down at start and at the end of animation
* applets painting methods has been extracted and rewritten, for re-use and hopefully the new painting methods are well structured
* yaWP supports externder items (in panel mode only) - extender item interacts with user like desktop mode.
In panel mode:
When user clicks on the applet (but not on the weather forecast icons) the extender pops up.
The behavior of the applet for clicking on the weather forecast icons can be configured in the config dialog on page "Panel"
option "Use interactive weather icons". When this option is checked the weather icon will toggle between day and night
(in case we have weather information for day and night) otherwise the extender will appear.
* Removes old files from cache directory $HOME/.cache/yawp on a regular base.
* The install script install.sh uses more CPU cores if available. Could be override by -j script option.
* Turkish translation (thanks to Hasan Kiran)
* Czech, Slovak and French translation updated
* Changing unit system in config dialog will force auto-update.
* AccuWeather will use a config file for satellite mapping.

0.3.6 (12 Dec 2010)
* Traverse through all locations periodically (optional)
* Page 'Settings' from config-dialog has been redesigned to gain more space
* Fixing update bug in Wunderground Ion.
* Algorithm that is doing the text layout for the details area has been simplified
* Fix API breakage in 4.5.2/4.6

0.3.5 (8 Oct 2010)
* Fix compilation error on KDE 4.5.2
* Patching ions to work with new weather-data-engine, thanks to Raymond Wooninck
* Fixing legal issues (The source code of the standard ions used as the base)
* Ion is checking state of pressure, instead of just coping the data
* Fix issues with sunrise/sunset
* Prefer millimeters of mecrcury to torr on KDE 4.5
* Fix KDE version check - consistently use KDE_IS_VERSION

0.3.4 (7 Jul 2010)
* Fix torr description.
* Fix problems with some ions when yawp runs under ru locale
* Fix compilation error on PCBSD (thanks vvheritagevv) for patch.
* Update translations cs, fr, sk

* Showing observation time (the time when weather-service-provider has been updated the weather data) on details page, when specific ion supports this feature.
Ion Google, AccuWeather and Wunderground returning observation time, as well.
* Timestamps for sunrise and sunset will be returned in the new timestamp format (when compiling with kde 4.3 and above - timestamps in the standard ions had been changed)

 jumping text animation?

by udev on: Oct 21 2011

Score 50%

Has anybody discovered that text is jumping up or down in animation area at start and at the end of animation? I'm a little bit puzzled whether this is caused by QT4 by drawing the text to a QPixmap differently than painting it right to a graphics device or whether this is caused by the graphics device driver and/or the GPU I'm using on my little i3-530.

 image bug in last trunk

Hi all
I test the last trunk version (466) and I see a little bug (see my screen-shot http://pix.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1320946212.jpg )

The "H" and the "°" are not complete, and with the previous version I use, it's complete.

Can you solve that ?

I find where is the problem.
In English you write "H: 15°"
but in French the good way is "H : 15°"
There is an space blank indivisible before the two points (:).

Two solutions :

-- you change the space allow to this variable

-- or, I modify the fr.po (I am the french translator for yaWP), it's not a problem but it's not a good translation...

Best regard.

Hi.
this should not be a problem. Could you check last revision? Is it still an issue for you?

In Czech I had the same problem. Even worse. Because H/L I has to translate as Max/Min. M/M has non sense, Ma/Mi looks strange and Max/Min was too long. So I'm using symbol "^" for Max and nothing (space) for Min values. But recently I tried Max/Min translation and in most cases it looked correct.

Good to hear it. But remember to leave some space for the negative sign and two digits, in case it's getting very cold. Why do you want translate "H: XX" with "H : XX" (with the space in front of the colon)?

Thank you to bring it to my attention. KDE seems to change the concept somewhere between KDE 4.2 and KDE 4.7...as least I think, the Apply-button does not exists in earlier KDE versions... yaWP is still following the old concept: User opens config-dialog, changes the values and when "OK"-button is clicked, applet is using the new values... but the Apply-button makes things easier to test the settings :) so I think we will change it soon

I also like the behaviour of weather-forecast applet, the user does not need to select an ion, just enter the city name and the applet will use all ions to search for this city...but the negative aspect is that this could lead to too many results. Especially with ion wunderground, I think I will add an INI-File to suppress personal weather stations in search result.

Looks nice (even I'm always using Accuweather). Why INI-File? We can specify an initial search order and let user to change it (and exclude unwanted services). It could be also an optional step in the City search dialog.

We can also only show a limited number of results together with button "Next results" (and this could be fetched on background).

Re: Re: Re: Apply is inactive

Wunderground is supporting two types of weather stations "airport" and "personal stations". Most of the time airport stations contains much more weather information (4 or 5 forecasts days) while personal stations supports current information only. Therefore I suppose most people do not care about this personal stations. But most stations in the search result are personal stations.
So the only idea that comes to my mind, is to change the behaviour of ION wunderground through an INI-File to suppress this personal weather stations, in order to gain the same result in yawp and other weather applets. Otherwise we could implement a special config widget, that appears right under the ION-combobox when wunderground has been selected...but in this case we do not treat all ION's the same way...
...or we leave it as it is...was just a thought...what do you think about this?

This is difficult one, for the following three reasons:
  • The ion is the only object that knows the url where we get the data from, and the standard KDE ions does not pass this information to the applet.

  • Compared to some other applets (e.g.: CWP) all ions (as far as I know) do not download and parse HTML-pages but using a service for finding cities and for receiving the weather information. The ION's receives well structured XML-page from the weather providers that will be parsed. Therefore it is up to the weather provider which data it will pass to the client that is using the web-service and which data will be shown on their own pages.

  • Since all ION's (as far as I know) using web-services to get the weather information, even the ION might not know the URL to the WEB-page that contains the data in a user friendly format.

"Open forecast URL" in r495 opens Opera browser here but KDE default browser is Konqueror. For wetter.com opened just site wetter.com instead of selected city forecast. If wetter.com don't have valid URL then "Open forecast URL" maybe should be disabled as for google or envcan.
Also I noticed that when city just added in settings "Open forecast URL" is inactive until I switch to other city and switch back. But after KDE restart "Open forecast URL" is active.

Sorry for confusing response. But the contents is NOT invalid. I double checked whether KDE-standard ION's provide this information or not. I noticed that BBC has this information and "Environment Canada" and NOAA do not contain this information at all. Furthermore I noticed that provider for AccuWeather and Wunderground providing this information as well. Up to KDE version 4.2 (at least I think so) all KDE-standard ION's was providing just the base url to the weather provider. Therefore I suppose KDE-Development Team just forgot about ION wetter.com. Maybe I will send an email to the KDE-Development Team to request this :)
I added a simple workaround for wetter.com (checking whether URL contains a path or just a simple base url).

I think my mind was twisted as I implemented the "Open Forecast URL" stuff :P
I was wondering why KDE never used "Firefox" on my system...but popup menu "Open with..." in konqueror contains "Firefox" as top level entry...so I bended KDE-API to behave as I expected...but forgot to configure konqueror properly (I was using embedded viewer as default one :P shame on me)
Long story short...should be fixed with release 499.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
     Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
