Description:

Yet Another Weather Plasmoid.
There is nothing wrong with the ones that exist, I just wanted something more colorful.

This plasmoid belongs to other people, it would not be where it is without their help. See the README.

Please help with additional themes and translations, thanks.

For the latest unstable version:
svn co https://yawp.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/yawp/trunk yawp

INSTALL NOTES
tar -jxf yawp*
cd yawp*
./install.sh

Changelog:

0.4.5 (23 Mar 2013)
* Bugfix: Desktop mode is not reusing applet size from last session.
* Bugfix: yaWP crashes in systemtray with KDE 4.10

0.4.4 (17 Mar 2012)
* New desktop painter has been added. Yawp can be configured to use the traditional or the new one for desktop and/or for popup window.
* Panel painter has been rewritten
* Initialization stuff of yawp has been moved to init method, because yawp crashes on KDE 4.8 due to the usage of not initialized components.
* Usage of KMessageBox has been replaced within DlgAddCity, otherwise yawp crashes on KDE 4.8.5 (some earlier versions might be included as well).
Using KMessageBoxes within KConfigDialog (yawp settings dialog) still works as expected.
* Google ION has been removed, because Google does not support this service any longer.
* Updating and fixing translations
* Bugfix: yaWP did not update weatherdata periodically after hibernation - it is working now

0.4.3 (17 Apr 2012)
* Show current RealFeel temperature under current temperature (thanks to Alain Soucy)
* Non-modale city search dialog
* Implementing public slot configChanged() to behave like a standard plasmoid - yaWP can be configured from external programs (e.g.: javascript)
* changing internal handling of extender (KDE 4.8 only) - when plasmoid will be used in desktop mode extender is not used and will be destroyed, when plasmoid is moved to panel a new extender will be created
* little tweaks to horizontal panel layout, adding more spaces between icons
* Ukrainian translation updated (Thanks to Yuri Chornoivan)

0.4.2 (04 Jan 2012)
* Adapting yaWP to KDE 4.8
* ION AccuWeather is showing closer maps for cities of the United States.
* Workaround crashes in city search dialog in KDE >= 4.7.4
* Frech and Slovak trasnlation updated
* Fixes in Wunderground ION
* Fix double translation for Short day names

0.4.1 (03 Dec 2011)
* Add ability to open forecast in browser (if URL is provided by ION)
* ION wunderground is returning a sorted list of cities (airport stations are listed on top of list,
because in general terms this station type contains more weather information than the personal weather station type).
* ION Wunderground is supporting satellite maps as well
* ION accuweather is not using a config-file for satellite image mapping any longer (feature has been added in version 0.4.0
but I think this was a stupid idea). Satellite images will be hard coded mapped to location in ION.
* Translations updated (CZ, FR)
* Several little bug fixes - including geometry issues

0.4.0 (13 Nov 2011)
* Bugfix: text in animation area jumps up or down at start and at the end of animation
* applets painting methods has been extracted and rewritten, for re-use and hopefully the new painting methods are well structured
* yaWP supports externder items (in panel mode only) - extender item interacts with user like desktop mode.
In panel mode:
When user clicks on the applet (but not on the weather forecast icons) the extender pops up.
The behavior of the applet for clicking on the weather forecast icons can be configured in the config dialog on page "Panel"
option "Use interactive weather icons". When this option is checked the weather icon will toggle between day and night
(in case we have weather information for day and night) otherwise the extender will appear.
* Removes old files from cache directory $HOME/.cache/yawp on a regular base.
* The install script install.sh uses more CPU cores if available. Could be override by -j script option.
* Turkish translation (thanks to Hasan Kiran)
* Czech, Slovak and French translation updated
* Changing unit system in config dialog will force auto-update.
* AccuWeather will use a config file for satellite mapping.

0.3.6 (12 Dec 2010)
* Traverse through all locations periodically (optional)
* Page 'Settings' from config-dialog has been redesigned to gain more space
* Fixing update bug in Wunderground Ion.
* Algorithm that is doing the text layout for the details area has been simplified
* Fix API breakage in 4.5.2/4.6

0.3.5 (8 Oct 2010)
* Fix compilation error on KDE 4.5.2
* Patching ions to work with new weather-data-engine, thanks to Raymond Wooninck
* Fixing legal issues (The source code of the standard ions used as the base)
* Ion is checking state of pressure, instead of just coping the data
* Fix issues with sunrise/sunset
* Prefer millimeters of mecrcury to torr on KDE 4.5
* Fix KDE version check - consistently use KDE_IS_VERSION

0.3.4 (7 Jul 2010)
* Fix torr description.
* Fix problems with some ions when yawp runs under ru locale
* Fix compilation error on PCBSD (thanks vvheritagevv) for patch.
* Update translations cs, fr, sk

0.3.3 (12 Jun 2010)

* Added word-wrap for details-property.
* Added new ion for wunderground weather service
* Showing observation time (the time when weather-service-provider has been updated the weather data) on details page, when specific ion supports this feature.
Ion Google, AccuWeather and Wunderground returning observation time, as well.
* Timestamps for sunrise and sunset will be returned in the new timestamp format (when compiling with kde 4.3 and above - timestamps in the standard ions had been changed)
* Google is returning more information of location to show the right flag. User needs to entered a more specific search text to add a new city.
* Timezone management
* Fix compilation problems with gcc 4.5 (thanks to Kai Wasserbäch)
* Translations updated: fr, pl(Maciej Bulik), sk, de, cs
* Added Ukrainian translation (thanks to Yuri Chornoivan)

Hi, one of our users at Fedora reported a crash when entering a city and pushing the find button.

Here is the bug report, which includes a backtrace:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=569558

I will direct the user here in case you need more information from him.

 More info on fedora bug#569558

Hi,

I'm the one who file this bug. The issue started with the kde update from version 4.3.5 to 4.4.0. The first time I had to remove ~/.cache/yawp to get reasonable values (all were 0). This went fine. After a next login I only got the info screen and world view. The info screen only showed the city(1) name, no values. The details button (most left one) wasn't there. Again, removed ~/.cache/yawp and reconfigured my city. Hitting the find-button crashed Plasma-Desktop.

(1) Enschede, Netherlands (Overijssel) from Accuweather.com

Hope this helps,

Martin Kho

When you update/change the version of kde than you have to recompile yawp. Yawp is a shared library that depends strongly on kde-functions! But each version is different. This isn't a yawp specific problem...

I don't understand, why people can not check previous pages in order to claim about something...on page 33, another user had the same problem...

Sorry, the user had reported the bug against the yawp build that was already recompiled against kde4.4. That was why I carried this over here. I think he got confused of something at some point.

So I believe this bug report can be ignored.

Hi,

I'm not sure if Orcan's conclusion is right. The version of yawn that crashed plasma-desktop was already re-compiled for kde 4.4.0, as Orcan said. So a re-compile isn't relevant in this case, is it?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Martin Kho

I confirm that udev says:
When I update to kde 4.4 Yawp don't work.
But after re-building yawp, that work fine.
It is normal, the config file of kde 4.4 are not the same that kde 4.39...

Hi chepioq,

Sorry, but I don't understand your answer. Yawp crashed after is was recompiled and not before.

Have you dropped the build directory and started the install-script again?
Otherwise it might happen, that yawp is partly linked against an old version...

Hi,

I didn't recompile the package myself. I got it pushed as an update together with kde 4.4.0 from Fedora repos.

Official Fedora packages get built in clean environments. There is no trace of an old build in the build machine during the rebuild of any package, including yawp.

Martin, how often does this crash happen?

Since nobody else experienced this bugs. I would like you to dowload yawp-source from here (version 0.3.2) and build it manually using the following statement:
$ ./install.sh -d -f /tmp/yawp.log -l Tracing -u

When install script has been completed successfully you will find the folder build/unittest
go into this directory and start the following command:
$ gdb plasmoidtest
gdb is waiting for an input statement, just enter:
$ run

now a little window should pop up, that contains the plasmoid yawp.
Now, play with it (like with the plasmoid) until it crashes... in this case gdb should print some lines on the commandline.
This information and the logfile in /tmp/yawp.log might help us to find the bug that is causing the crash on your system.

You need the following package:
cmake
kdebase-workspace-dev
kdelibs5-dev
gdb

Hi Ogetbilo,

Yawp crashed only once, when KDE was updated from version 3.5.? to 4.4.0. After the crash I managed to set my city. Till today I didn't need to re-enter it. (find crashed yawp). So I can't say for sure if yawp won't crash. I'll try the procedure described by udev and see what happens :-)

Just in case, i might have add the previous message to the wrong person :-)

Please uninstall yawp
Build yawp as described in my previous message, than go into the directory build/ions and do
make install
this way, the ions from yawp will also write the logmessages to /tmp/yawp.log.

And than start plasmoidtest with gdb from build/unittest.

Yes, it should be it. Your problem looks like cmake tries to link against wrong kde libs.

Could you paste the cmake configure part from beginning?

Hi,

I've followed the debug procedure described by udev. Played with the plasmoid (find/remove cities) and ... no crashes. It had to be a 'temporary glitch' in the transition from kde 4.3.5 to 4.4.0 that made Yawp crash. So it was false alarm :-)

Rest me, to say that I like this app very much, it's really nice. Dutch people are very dependent on weather forecasts :-)

Thanks for your patience,

Martin Kho

Btw. Tried the official Fedora package again and it didn't crash too.

 A bug?

 by uvy on: May 3 2010

I live in Sankt-Petersburg, Russia
and I see China weather map in yaWP.
I think this is because guys in
AccuWeather think that Russia is placed in Asia [which is not almost correct :)] and yaWP shows the map which is sugested by AccuWeather.

It would be greate if there were a possibility to chose desirable map by
hands - an Europe map in my case.

Looking a the source code of ions/ion_accuweather.cpp, i think it might be a mapping problem in AccuWeatherIon::getImageUrl(...). I will take a closer look in the next few days. When you are familiar with cpp programming, your more than welcome to take a look at it as well.
But, i think it is a good idea for the future to select the card manual as well.

accuweather satellite map for russia might be fixed with revision 381.
I'm not sure if it is really a good idea to add a feature to manual choose satellite map, because this will hide the real problem...

Maybe your subconscious was trying to tell you to test yawp :-)
Is there a special reason why you prefer CWP?

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
