Description:

Yet Another Weather Plasmoid.
There is nothing wrong with the ones that exist, I just wanted something more colorful.

This plasmoid belongs to other people, it would not be where it is without their help. See the README.

Please help with additional themes and translations, thanks.

For the latest unstable version:
svn co https://yawp.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/yawp/trunk yawp

INSTALL NOTES
tar -jxf yawp*
cd yawp*
./install.sh

Changelog:

0.4.5 (23 Mar 2013)
* Bugfix: Desktop mode is not reusing applet size from last session.
* Bugfix: yaWP crashes in systemtray with KDE 4.10

0.4.4 (17 Mar 2012)
* New desktop painter has been added. Yawp can be configured to use the traditional or the new one for desktop and/or for popup window.
* Panel painter has been rewritten
* Initialization stuff of yawp has been moved to init method, because yawp crashes on KDE 4.8 due to the usage of not initialized components.
* Usage of KMessageBox has been replaced within DlgAddCity, otherwise yawp crashes on KDE 4.8.5 (some earlier versions might be included as well).
Using KMessageBoxes within KConfigDialog (yawp settings dialog) still works as expected.
* Google ION has been removed, because Google does not support this service any longer.
* Updating and fixing translations
* Bugfix: yaWP did not update weatherdata periodically after hibernation - it is working now

0.4.3 (17 Apr 2012)
* Show current RealFeel temperature under current temperature (thanks to Alain Soucy)
* Non-modale city search dialog
* Implementing public slot configChanged() to behave like a standard plasmoid - yaWP can be configured from external programs (e.g.: javascript)
* changing internal handling of extender (KDE 4.8 only) - when plasmoid will be used in desktop mode extender is not used and will be destroyed, when plasmoid is moved to panel a new extender will be created
* little tweaks to horizontal panel layout, adding more spaces between icons
* Ukrainian translation updated (Thanks to Yuri Chornoivan)

0.4.2 (04 Jan 2012)
* Adapting yaWP to KDE 4.8
* ION AccuWeather is showing closer maps for cities of the United States.
* Workaround crashes in city search dialog in KDE >= 4.7.4
* Frech and Slovak trasnlation updated
* Fixes in Wunderground ION
* Fix double translation for Short day names

0.4.1 (03 Dec 2011)
* Add ability to open forecast in browser (if URL is provided by ION)
* ION wunderground is returning a sorted list of cities (airport stations are listed on top of list,
because in general terms this station type contains more weather information than the personal weather station type).
* ION Wunderground is supporting satellite maps as well
* ION accuweather is not using a config-file for satellite image mapping any longer (feature has been added in version 0.4.0
but I think this was a stupid idea). Satellite images will be hard coded mapped to location in ION.
* Translations updated (CZ, FR)
* Several little bug fixes - including geometry issues

0.4.0 (13 Nov 2011)
* Bugfix: text in animation area jumps up or down at start and at the end of animation
* applets painting methods has been extracted and rewritten, for re-use and hopefully the new painting methods are well structured
* yaWP supports externder items (in panel mode only) - extender item interacts with user like desktop mode.
In panel mode:
When user clicks on the applet (but not on the weather forecast icons) the extender pops up.
The behavior of the applet for clicking on the weather forecast icons can be configured in the config dialog on page "Panel"
option "Use interactive weather icons". When this option is checked the weather icon will toggle between day and night
(in case we have weather information for day and night) otherwise the extender will appear.
* Removes old files from cache directory $HOME/.cache/yawp on a regular base.
* The install script install.sh uses more CPU cores if available. Could be override by -j script option.
* Turkish translation (thanks to Hasan Kiran)
* Czech, Slovak and French translation updated
* Changing unit system in config dialog will force auto-update.
* AccuWeather will use a config file for satellite mapping.

0.3.6 (12 Dec 2010)
* Traverse through all locations periodically (optional)
* Page 'Settings' from config-dialog has been redesigned to gain more space
* Fixing update bug in Wunderground Ion.
* Algorithm that is doing the text layout for the details area has been simplified
* Fix API breakage in 4.5.2/4.6

0.3.5 (8 Oct 2010)
* Fix compilation error on KDE 4.5.2
* Patching ions to work with new weather-data-engine, thanks to Raymond Wooninck
* Fixing legal issues (The source code of the standard ions used as the base)
* Ion is checking state of pressure, instead of just coping the data
* Fix issues with sunrise/sunset
* Prefer millimeters of mecrcury to torr on KDE 4.5
* Fix KDE version check - consistently use KDE_IS_VERSION

0.3.4 (7 Jul 2010)
* Fix torr description.
* Fix problems with some ions when yawp runs under ru locale
* Fix compilation error on PCBSD (thanks vvheritagevv) for patch.
* Update translations cs, fr, sk

0.3.3 (12 Jun 2010)

* Added word-wrap for details-property.
* Added new ion for wunderground weather service
* Showing observation time (the time when weather-service-provider has been updated the weather data) on details page, when specific ion supports this feature.
Ion Google, AccuWeather and Wunderground returning observation time, as well.
* Timestamps for sunrise and sunset will be returned in the new timestamp format (when compiling with kde 4.3 and above - timestamps in the standard ions had been changed)
* Google is returning more information of location to show the right flag. User needs to entered a more specific search text to add a new city.
* Timezone management
* Fix compilation problems with gcc 4.5 (thanks to Kai Wasserbäch)

This was already the slickest weather widget I'd seen on any platform. This latest release further solidifies that ranking. Great job!

Same problems, temp is not displayed in the taskbar, and not displaying in in yawp on desktop.
I have other problem, icon for showing satellite image is not displaying on desktop.
I think it is problem with new version of Kde, I use the 4.3.3-7 version from fedora.

Hi,
I have the same problem. It seems like there is some issue with accuweather. Two days ago worked correctly. But now are accuweather data not updated in yaWP even the last update is changed and engine downloads proper data.

I'm not sure what changed. Unfortunately I had not time to look on it :-(

Applet is treating all weatgerinformations the same way, no matter which kind of ion it has sent. Therefore i guess Accuweather had problems to provide information, that are up to date. I noticed it yesterday as well.
I noticed that bbcukmet is sometimes one day behind - therefore yawp is extracting only informations for today and the following days. (e.g.: today is Wednesday, but the first day in the weatherinformation we got from an ion is Tuesday. In this case yawp assumes the first day is old and will not be shown in the applet. All current informations (tagged as current) belongs to the first day, therefore there are useless as well. In this case the satelliteimage is also too old and is not shown in the applet. All weather ions contains more information for the first day. This is the reason, why you might see some less information (e.g.: no current temperature) - this is the same behaviour, if you do not have network connection for days and use only cached values.
At least this is what i thought as i wrote this applet. Comments or suggestions are welcome.
But to make sure, we might check it with theinformations from the website.

Just an info:
I use fedora 12 with Yawp 0.3 and kde 4.3.3-4 and there is the problem.
I also test fedora13 rawhide with the latest revision of mc_west and kde 4.3.3-7
and Yawp work fine (with rawhide I can't install yawp 0.3 because kdelibs-devel is not available yet).

May be it is a problem with kde 4.3.3-7 (the future kde 4.4...)

Hi,
the problem is in the accuweather_ion. Try the standard KDE forecast plasmoid with accuweather ion. For some reason it returns data for Tue, Wen, Thu, Fri even there is Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat in the XML file (in Firefox, Konqueror).

I don't understand how it is possible :-(

All bugs from this site should be solved now. Strange that we didn't discovered this bug any earlier.
As most people already thought, the bug was in trunk/ions/ion_accuweather.cpp.
I did not create a new version. So you have to get this file and rebuild it.

Just for the people, who do not use svn-version from trunk, the file is located at:
http://yawp.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/yawp/trunk/ions/ion_accuweather.cpp

We already noticed, that some systems miss a symbolic link. Open a terminal and check where your kdelibs located: kde4-config --path lib
Normally kde is in /usr/lib???

Go to this directory and enter ls -l libplasmaweather.so*. In case you have some of this files, than all you need is ln -s libplasmaweather.so.4.3.0 libplasmaweather.so
or so...

Otherwise you might miss a package like plasma-dataengines-addons and probably its development-package as well.

AccuWeather and EnvironmentCanada providing informations for day and night. Daily temperature is shown below the buttons on the left side. What your are talking about is the current temperatue and this might be shown only for the first day or night. You will also might find more informations for the first day or night than for all other days. According to the two screenshots, it was night as you made them. Weathericon for the night is a little bit translucent. Go to the details page, flip the weathericon and you will see in the lower details-description the text like Friday or [/i]Friday night[/i] and some further informations. I have to admit, that version 0.3 and version 0.2 is behaving differently at this point. But i think version 0.3 is doing it the right way. This might be the reason why you might be a little bit confused. We do not have a documentations for yawp yet. So i will explain it to you in a little more detail.

Some provider like AccuWeather and Environment Canada providing two valuesets for each day. One for daytime and one for nighttime. We save both valuesets independent. If a day contains two valuesets and you click on
the weathericon, than you will switch the state of the day. All informations you see in the top of the preview page and on the entire details page depends on that iconstate.
In version 0.2 you saw always the current temperature, humidity, windspeed, low temperature and high temperature for the daytime, no matter if weathericon is showing the icon for
daytime or nighttime.

Furthermore all provider supports informations for the current weather conditions. This informations contains:
current temperature, humidity, weather icon and weather description.
When we have only one valuesets for the first day, than we simple add the valuesets of the current weather condition to the one of the first day.
But in case the first day contains a valueset for daytime and nighttime, we select one of them according to the current time, sunrise and sunset.

Your first case:
It was 13:26 - sunrise 7:18 and sunset 15:34, so we map the values of the current weather condition to the valueset for daytime (because sunrise < current time < sunset)
Your seconde case:
It was 16:45 - sunrise 7:18 and sunset 15:34, so we map the values of the current weather condition to the valueset for nighttime. (because current time > sunset)

Hope that helps you to understand yaWP a little better, otherwise you might take a look at http://ruan.accu-weather.com/widget/ruan/weather-data.asp?location=EUR|UA|UP006|KHARKIV.
This is the url, that AccuWeather is parsing for your city.

Thank you for your explanation.

But I did not understand what mean different wind speed that still displayed after switching state of the day. Is it current speed?

No, some values belongs to the weatherset of the current conditions and to the valueset of the forecast valueset. In this case we simply overwrite the value from the weatherset of the forecast with the one from the current weather conditions. Windspeed, high temp, low temp, weather icon and weather condition description also belongs to the weather forecasts.

You might want to run plasmoidviewer yaWP from a terminal or look at the url from my last post to see all informations we get from the provider/ion.

There is also a worst-case scenario that a provider simply don't has all informations for a certain city. In this case, therefore weather plasmoids can not always show all informations. A good example for this one is noaa.

I forgot to tell you, the column-sizing issue will be fixed in the next patch-version. Right now all columns in the configdialog have fixed column sizes, but i will resize the last two columns to the column content.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
