I believe that the screenshots are self-explained.

Update #1:
I've made the mockup more "oxygenised" :P

 I like the idea

This looks great. Actually, I submitted a bug/whish request and suggested to make the "statusbar" flexible as I would prefere it at the bottom, too.
I would like to see this upstream.

 Mockup

Heh. I actually started on a mockup too, as I dislike the current look of Amarok2. Unfortunately I never finished it.

In terms of layout, it was actually very similar to yours. However, I didn't have visualizations or the song info above the playlist.

Needless to say, I love your mockup. I like the "main" toolbar with three buttons and volume slider, and visualizations would be nice to see again (currently not possible). It looks very clean in general, something I wouldn't say about the current Amarok2.

However, there is one thing I wonder: in the mockup, the application is clearly divided into three parts: left|middle|right. What if I want to resize say the playlist? Should the components in the top change too? Or maybe it doesn't matter if they aren't neatly aligned?

"What if I want to resize say the playlist? Should the components in the top change too?"

Yes, because IMO that would give an uniform and less confusing appearance on amarok 2.

That's true, but I see some problems with this:
1. The elements aren't visually connected.

2. Some users don't want the context browser. Last time I tried it was possible to hide it by resizing the playlist, but that would hide the visualization too?

3. If I hide the left panel (Collection etc), the play buttons disappear?

 Real?

Don't scare me. This is a mockup, but does it closely resemble what Amarok will look like? One of the features I like the most in current Amarok is that I can display the CD artwork in a LARGE size, but the artwork in this mockup is reduced to a tiny thumbnail. I don't want Amarok to look like the rest of players!

That "gap" would probably close with a widget.

 Awesome!

This is the most good looking and (probably) usable audio player interface mockup I've ever seen, ever! Congratulations!
Amarok 2 in its current state doesn't look good enough, honestly Amarok 1.x looks a lot better.
I don't know what Amarok devs think about it but please, join them and help them to make Amarok prettier.
With this interface it could be the number one killer app for KDE4.

Yes, I think too, that Amarok 1.x looks better. This great idea, and it must be in upstream!

Where is it? :/

With no menubar... how are going to access scripts, configuration, cover manager, etc?

Looks great. I'd love it if amarok could look look that way. It's way better for many reasons. The layout being the main one I believe.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
