 Settings window

One thing, in the settings window, the two buttons are too small for the words they have inside, at least in spanish. When I resize the window, it doesn't affect to the size of the buttons.

 Language Internationalization

by oxi on: Nov 6 2008

Score 50%

I've been taking a look at the source code to try to implement language internationalization. However it seems the texts presented come from the yahoo weather forecast rss feed, and this doesn't seem to accept a language parameter.

So i've thought of three different approaches to this:

1.: retrieving the info from another reliable wheather forecast rss feed which accepts a parameter for lang/loc. This is the most desirable and simple option in my opinion.

2.: Draw up a list including different rss urls for different languages/locations. Ideally they should come from the same wheather forecaster(f.e. yahoo), so all the rss feeds return a similarly formatted xml file. If not, it would be a mess; it'd be needed to implement different ways of retrieving info for each feed type.

However, i've look into this, and yahoo doesn't seem to provide rss feeds for every language/location. At least I couldn't manage to find a spanish rss feed.

3.: Build a dictionary file and store translations for each locale. This has the inconvenience that if yahoo rss texts changed, the file would need to be updated asap.

So there go my thoughts on the matter. Maybe there's already an internationalization effort in progress. If so, I'd be pleased to know. Thanks.

I think Internationalization should be independent of feed or the keywords. This is in my TODO.

You can fix the undefined reference errors when running make like so:

untar
cd plasma-weatherforecast-0.2
mkdir build
cd build
cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` ..
vi CMakeFiles/plasma_applet_weatherforecast.dir/link.txt
add "-lQtXml" to the list of libs
make
sudo make install

Can a feature be added to allow the font color to be changed? Try this with the plasma themes "Spoons" or "White Glass" and you'll see why it's needed.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
