 Karamba probs

 by mcguire22 on: Nov 8 2003

Score 50%

Can someone please help me. I installed Karamba from the Suse 9 Distribution. All provided themes work fine. But when I download a theme from KDE-look.org and try to run them, nothing happens, only the transparent fields are loaded onto the desktop. I guess I am missing something very basic, what's the problem?
(sorry, linux newbie)

In order for anyone to give you any help, you will need to help yourself first. One of the great features of unix/linux, is that programmers try to maximise the amount of information available when a programme goes wrong. However, usually this is only easily available if you run a program from a terminal.

So you need to open up a terminal (use konsole), and run superkaramba using the following command:

superkaramba /path/to/theme/themename.theme

please note that you'll have to replace the /path/to... bit with the actual path to the theme you want to run and the actual theme name. Once you have done that, cut and paste the output and email it to me, and I'll endeavour to help.

Matt

I guess you have to modify the .rc or theme .files to point them where the icons are. I had the similar problem with some other applets.

.rc files are placed in /home/your_username/.superkaramba

and .theme file you can open with right mouse click on running applet and then choosing Edit -> Edit Theme.

 python problem

can anyone help me ?
when i starting a theme with superkaramba then i get an import error:

Could not find platform independent libraries
Could not find platform dependent libraries
Consider setting $PYTHONHOME to [:]
'import site' failed; use -v for traceback
kdecore (KLibLoader): WARNING: KLibrary: /opt/kde3/lib/libkdecore.so.4: undefined symbol: S5LogShowThreadIDS
superkaramba: TaskManager::TaskManager()

import string, re, os
ImportError: No module named string
------------------------------------------------------
What does ImportError mean?

It means that I couldn't load a python add-on for osXBar.theme
If this is a regular theme and doesn't use python
extensions, then nothing is wrong.
------------------------------------------------------

I can not solve the problem.

You need to give people information to work with. Clearly your python installation is bung. Tell us what distro, what version of python etc.

File "/home/adamslt/osXBar_1.0.15-Beta/osXBarCfg.py", line 45, in LoadCfg
self.Engine.Configuration["pathKDEIcons"]=kdedir + "/share/icons/" + self.getKDEConfigValue(os.getenv("HOME") + "/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals", "Icons", "Theme")
TypeError: cannot concatenate 'str' and 'int' objects

Thanks,

Not all the icons load even though I made sure the path to the icons are correct in the osxbar.config file.

You can check the osXBar.conf to adjust your icons.

Since version 1.0.16 I've been done a icons package, remember to install it

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
