 Feedback - 1.0.9

by Matti on: Oct 12 2003

Score 50%

This is getting really good. Some feedback:

- The animation when the widget returns to resting after a mouse out is very slow.

- The icons don't return to their original resting position after a mouse out. They are still a bit jumbled.

- If I specify the "kmail" icon, I get the crystal kmail icon, and not the icon from the iconset I'm currently using (umicons). All other icons are umicons.

- CPU usage on idle is between 0 and 3% on an AMD 1.2GHz Duron w/ 256MB Ram.

- CPU usage on mouseover is between 45 and 65%.

- If I click Reload Theme, I get:

Call to widgetUpdated failed
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "osXBar.py", line 68, in initWidget
theEngine.Init(0)
File "osXBarEngine.py", line 174, in Init
theSensor.Init(NextStatus)
File "osXBarSensor.py", line 248, in Init
thread.exit(self.EngineThread)
TypeError: function takes no arguments

And a crash. Not a major, as it only affects reload.

I may now have to ditch 0.90pre4 for this version.

Keep up the good work!

Matt

- Animations too slow? Did you changed config value:
AniSpeed => 5
with a greater value?

- I know about The "not complete reset" bug....

- Reload is not yes supported, I have to understand what is reload for superkaramba because osXBar 1.0 is multithread engine based

tanks for feedback
PS:
To improve performance or FPS you can check the osXBar.conf...

 awesome!

You work really fast on updating this OSXbar!

Every version that I have tried seems to get better and better. I'm a linux newbie and don't know much about computers, but, configuring your oxsbar.config file was no problem and I am starting to get it!

The only drawback is that if I leave the osXbar on, I can't play my online game (Enemy Territory). Like others said, I think it may take too much CPU usage so that it makes my game jerky. But either way, when I'm not playing, I now use this dock. Thanks!

 Resting position

Using 1.0.9.

The icons don't always return to their resting point after mouse out. Definitely don't return when there is no window maximised (ie only the desktop showing). And sometimes doesn't happen when there is a window maximised.

 1.0.10 beta

 by micro420 on: Oct 15 2003

Score 50%

When I load up version 1.0.9 and 1.0.10 beta on my Mandrake 9.1 (KDE) during the startup using SuperKaramba, the dock bar seems to be always on top of all the other applications. If I load it manually through SuperKaramba then this "always on top" disappears. I have edited the theme and made sure the "ONTOP=false" was there.

Also, if the dock bar is loaded via SuperKaramba, and if I watch a movie in MPlayer, sometimes it interferes with my video by creating a small green line that flickers. When I disable the osXbar, then the videos play fine.

But other then that, I love this dock bar very much and I like how you update your versions really quick. Keep up the good work!!!

 1.0.10 - Nice

by Matti on: Oct 17 2003

Just downloaded 1.0.10.

This is really nice now. CPU usage on idle (on a pIII 600Mhz laptop) is 2-5%.

Animation is really smooth. The bug where the icons didn't quite go to rest properly now works well. However the animation where they drop down to rest is still very slow.

Can you add the option to have icons bounce multiple times when a window opens.

Other than this, this is now very useable.

Great work!

Matt

 1.0.11

by Matti on: Oct 18 2003

Score 50%

Hi, me again.

Got 1.0.11.

Couple of points:

I don't see any improvement in CPU usage on idle (if anything it's slightly higher) - about 8% on a AMD Duron 1.2GHz. 1.0.10 was about 2-5% on the same CPU.

Also, the theme is much wider now (to accomodate the realosx animation), even if you don't use realosx. Not a biggy.

See my previous post for some other things.

Still my favourite theme (except for Liquid Weather ++ = but you always like your own stuff best :)).

- Can you test a Mac with bar? I've done yesterday and try to replicate the same animations... It seem's sooooo wide. Use osx and vode osx on my polls if you don't like. (I dont' like the wiiiide animation)

- cpu usage:
* open osxbar 1.0 from a terminal
* check for "Sleeping: NNN"
* if you are away from the bar, NNN [

Initially it's:

Sleeping: 0.01

Then it changes to:

Sleeping: 0.5

Does that help?

Sorry don't have access to a mac. Maybe the issue for me is that I have my icons start at 32, and zoom to 64. If I started at 64 and zoomed to 128, maybe it'd look ok.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
