Still far from working, so I've been looking for the bug myself..

It seems that there's no 'Icons' section in my kdeglobals file, which results in osXBarCfg (@getKDEConfigValue) returning -1 and therefore making Python tell it cannot concatenate str + int.

---

few minutes later:

Allrighty, it works!

But it takes a lot of CPU, and there's a lot of X-es, and there's no 'Trash' directory on my system.
(please keep in mind users can change the name of that directory)

 what about pager

But where did the cool pager from the pre versions go? The one that allows you to switch desktops. Is it possible to enable it somewhere in the config?

 Some feedback

by Matti on: Sep 30 2003

Score 50%

Here are my thoughts on 1.0.4.

CPU usage:

On idle, I'm getting around 5-10% on my pentium III 600Mhz, 256MB Ram laptop. On mouse over, I'm getting between 40 and 60%. So getting better, but not at the same efficiency as 0.9pre4. I'm using 32 to 64 pixel zooming on the icons. When I changed the size of the widget in the config file by reducing the space above the icons to 100, it got a bit faster.

Movement:

I like the osx movement, and it feels really smooth and responsive. Feels much smoother than 0.9pre4

Icons returning after mouse out:

If I take the mouse out of the widget, and direct to another window, then the icons start to return, but they don't quite return to their original position. There is uneven space left between them. If I put the mouse back in to the widget, they snap back to the original position. Then if I mouse out to the desktop, everything returns to resting position, but then the last two icons closest to the end where the mouse exits rise and fall slowly, and the icons end up not quite at resting position, with the end icon sitting up a bit.

No bounce on opening a new window:

Can we get the bouncing back on opening a new window?

I really like some of the new feaures:

Configurable context menus for each icon, providing the X icons for apps that don't have a kde icons.

Keep up the good work. This theme is gonna be gooood.

Hope this feedback helps.

Matt

- CPU usage:
* did you set the "fast image scaling" ?
* What about what your eyes can see? I hope you see smooth scaled icons
* cpu usage may be adjust from tips in osXBar.conf
- Movement:
* I hope to add more movement...
- Reset state:
* it's a small bug, I know it.
- Animations:
* 1.0.8 will have addons, like animations...

Yes your feedback will help me

To answer your question, yes, fast image scaling is set, and it definitely "looks" smoother.

When you say tips, are you talking about the adjustments for fps. I have this set to 1, would a higher number be better for a slower cpu?

Most likely you need to set the KDEDIR variable:
export KDEDIR=/usr
if you're using mandrake or kde ...

 kinda works...

Hey, this is pretty cool.

Minor problems:
-For some reason, it's not as smooth as I would like, it seems like there is a low fps, if that makes sense, my cpu is < 10% at idle (i've got lots of other things running too) and around 60-70% when i'm moving the mouse around and zooming. Cpu and smoothness look about the same with or without Fast Image Scaling.

-If I have a window near the bar, and then I move the mouse over an icon on the osxbar, so it's zoomed big, then move the mouse directly onto the window, the icon gets 'stuck' as big, and doesn't zoom back to small until i move the cursor back on to the background above the bar.

-Only my Konsole and one other program (DosBox) show up as running on the bar. The bar should automaticly add icons for all running programs I think. (I also have opera, gaim, xmms, kmail open)

-After a few minutes, it stopped zooming the icons...except for the panther looking X on the far right (which was the icon for my DosBox running program). All other icons would not move when I moved the mouse over them. But I could still click on them fine. Here is the log of the output (I cut the beginning of the log, it was just a bunch of Updated: -1, Loop, Loop, etc)

I'm running KDE version 3.1.3-1 on Debian unstable (installed from Knoppix CD)

I waiting for tester, any dump is welcome...
- I cannot know if the mouse is over the karamba widget or over a window, I can trace only the position.

for others bug, I'm debugging code.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
