Umicons Icons for KDE!

I have convertet in many hours over 2500 icons for KDE.
There are many icons which aren't used by KDE. Just take a look in the folders.

Many thanks to mattahan, the creator of the icons, for his agreement to convert this icons for KDE.

Please read the readme!

i just registered only so i could tell you how terrific your work looks! i'm not even using kde, but the icons look great on their own.

its unique comic-style is refreshing amongst all the clean icons found in so many other packs.

as others said i would suggest extra icons for 16x16 tough, because on this small size you loose most of the details and the icons appear as quite a blur.

i would also like to know how you did the icons? handdrawn and digitized?

hope to see much more (aka new release) of this wonderful set soon :).

Umicons are probably my favorite now, and I like that it is so complete unlike many other sets here!

This has to make it in 3.2!

 agressive readme

I was trying to create a Mandrake Package for use inside my company.
I did not find any "README" file and started the package creation.
After finishing the RPM and testing install I've discovered the "readme damnit!!!.txt" and sadly discovered that companies are not welcome to use these icons....
So I stoppped immediately my idea to deploy it for my users in order to respect the licence.

Anyway, now I have a spec file and instead of removing it I think it would be a more intelligent idea to contribut it to the communitiy.

My question is: how do I contribute to it. (how can I publish it on this site as a contrib to Umicons instead of creating a new entry that could be seen in a bad way by the author)

PS: of course I won't spend my company time for packaging next versions of this icon-set as I'm not allowed to use it in return.

Regards.

Hello,

it seems that many users here at kde-look doesn't read the text properly, just download the packages....
I'm NOT the creator of this icons! The creators name is "mattahan". I've asked him if i could use his icons to make a KDE-Set. He agreed and so i spend several dozen of hours to convert the icons (original file format was .ico) and make this set so good as possible.
I've included this "readmedamnit" because it's the the original readme (and added my "Converted for KDE...".

If anyone wanna use this icons for other things please go to mattahans website (uhoh, optimized for IE...:/) mentioned in the read me and write him an e-mail. So far i know everyone got the permission from him to do firebird skins, iconpackager sets (for Windows)or the Liquid Weather Karamba theme found here on KDE-Look and, and, and....)

If someone use my KDE-Set for other things it would be nice to mention me as well as mattahan.

Sorry for my bad english

regards,
norbalin

I don't blame you, in the contrary, I congratulate you for your fabulous work.
Thanks to guys like you, the KDE community can enjoy some fabulous artworks.

I'm just sad that the license (that you're not responsible for) prevent users in a company to enjoy this artwork on their desktop.

The drawback of such a licence is that it may never get included in a general distribution and get only a marginal diffusion (limited to kdelook visitors)

Anyway, it clear that anybody is free to decide what one can do with the result of his hard work, and I strongly respect this choice.

In the RPM, I've put the following header. Do you think it is apropriate?

Vendor: Norbalin
License: Restricted
Summary: Umicons 2.0 Icons set.
Packager: Olivier Lahaye
URL: http://Mattahan.Web1000.com

The Umicons 2.0 Icons from Mattahan ported to KDE by Norbalin!
Many thanks goes to mattahan for his agreement to convert this icons for Linux/KDE!!!

PS: The SPEC RPM and SRPM have not been spreaded and will not be until I have the authoristion of course.

PPS: On the KDElook sumup, the License says "read the readme". Thus I was obliged to download it before reading the readme...

Best regards.

i think its ok, you just wanna use them on the desktop and thats why the set is here :)

mattahan just wanna prevent to use this icons like it happends in the past with fooods icons, mentioned in the read me, some companys sold them on cd or use them for commercial software products without credits to him... not once menmtioned him...

Maybe i should email mattahan and discuss this with him, maybe we could take this kde-set under lgpl if he agree. :)

I like the screen shot of this icon theme, but I can't download it. It can't find the deviantart site. Does anyone have a link, or would anyone be nice enough to email it to me?
Thanks

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
