Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

 black window color problem

 by D-- on: Jul 6 2012

Score 50%

hi,

if I set black as window color and then choose tiled, vertical or horizontal gradient for window background, the window color is automatically set to #464646 instead of black.

I believe this happens not only for black but for all color darker then #464646. Am I doing something wrong?

No. The color is capped because it's f****** hard to cast a shadow on black ;-)

You can however control the cap (i just see the default is 70, what's actually to bright, i use 48 - tsts..)

If you've a recent version of bespin it's sufficient to enter
bespin write style Bg.MinValue 48
to konsole or krunner, otherwise you'll have to edit ~/.config/Bespin/Style.conf and add the key by hand.
The value _has_ to be between 0 and 255 (while setting it to 255 is maybe not the smartest thing one can do ;-)

I'll update the default, sorry for the trouble and thanks for the report.

looks like the same limitation applies to tabs and headers coloring, am I right?

I mean, even i set the window color as black, and then use window color for coloring tabs and headers, the color is not black but some kind of gray.

Is there a command to address tabs and headers too?

"Similar" to most gradients, yes (biggest issue here is that they won't create gradients anymore and the dark/dright edges)

None, Simple, Sunken, Metal & Shiny should have no lower limit; I forgot to add Stone to that list.

-> I have to commit adjustments in that area anyway (protecting glosses against bright saturated colors) so if you've got a certain issue, better state it now ;-)

so my issues are:
-progress bar
-header
-tab
-slider
all with stone gradient

simply put: i want an all black stoned theme :D

Anyway, i tried magic similar to that you taught me before but it didn't work, things like bespin Tab.MinValue=10, etc.

Is there something similar to Bg.MinValue for other components? Thanks

thanks,

everything is fine now except headers, that does still not take the black.

I noticed that even if i select "none" as gradient, normal and sorting headers fallback to gray.

neither FF nor chromium can use bespin since they're gtk+ applications (where FF is not even that)

you'll be using gtk-qt (a gtk+ style which wraps around a qt style)

1. don't expect gtk+ applications to look too much like qt applications because gtk+ simply can't do a couple of things (foremost generic contrast swapping on hover is pof)

2. iirc the div by zero error used to be a bug in rather old gtk-qt versions which failed on non-visible scrollbar buttons, so i'd try to either enable those in "bespin config" or update gtk-qt

if you're interesten in a certain look, a native gtk+ style like orta will rather fit you for those applications (bespin also ships a chromium skin in it's svn repo)

Odd bug: Transparent side of window

by gravy on: Sep 2 2012

If I open a window, and either click off the window so it's inactive, or click anything in the window, suddenly the side of the window turns transparent, oddly. Using latest SVN (as of this posting date).

Here's a screenshot of the problem.

Extremely hard to see (probably not visible in the image I sent you), but on all 4 corners, the shadow misses a small area on the round part. I'll give you an example of what I mean... It's like this on all corners as I said.

Unrelated - the alphablending doesn't match between shaping inner (shadow) and outer (deco) round areas away :-\

Ok, this one is trivially fixed.

Can you please open bugs for the other two at cloudcity.sf.net and post/attach your ~/.config/Bespin/Style.conf there?

Also please record the used compositor (GL, EGL, GLSL, XRender) and the graphicssystem (set in Advanced tab of "kcmshell4 kwincompositing")

 Conflicts with KParts plugin

The latest version 1607 seems to be conflicting with KParts plugin, whereas it didn't at least a month ago in revisions.

Its causing a separate X window to open instead of being integrated inside Firefox, not sure why though. I don't know if its fixable or not, but I was just letting you know just in case you could fix it.

 Win deco feature request

by SvenArcher on: Sep 29 2012

Score 50%

I'm using the Bespin deco with "base" set to flat and "deco" set to none. My titlebar color is set to black w/ a little transparency.

I really like this look, however the decoration visibility suffers a bit when positioned over a dark background.

Would you consider adding a window decoration configuration option that could be used to set a decoration frame outline width and color?

In my case, I would use it to set a 1px gray outline to delineate the outer window decoration edges.

There's a thin outline w/o compositing. With compositing you could utilize the shadow (use them as halo) and if you configure the deco hint to sth. that's not the Window role and set "None" as gradient you'll also get a border (if the edge and base sizes are > 0)

Does that fit your needs?
Otherwise please illustrate the faced issue with screenshot.

Thanks for the quick response.

I tried your suggestions, but wasn't able to achieve the result shown in the mockup.

I'm using the Bespin deco on its own (I really like the shadows, buttons, and border width controls) combined with Oxygen Transparent (unified GTK) . . . so I'm not sure the style hints would work in my case.

Screenshot without outline...

...the dolphin titlebar gets lost in the konsole window behind it.

Mockup with outline...
http://i.imgur.com/o4f5a.png
...there's a slight outline tracing the outer perimeter of the dolphin window.

I don't know if the Bespin deco was ever intended to be used on its own, but IMO, the addition of an outline option and maybe a border radius config would make it perfect.

 Crash on startup

Hi thomas,

I have been experiencing a weird problem. Everytime I boot into my KDE the kwin bespin decoration is not there (presumably it has crashed). If I go to a virtual console and restart kdm then everything is loading properly.

If I change the decoration to Oxygen then I no longer have this problem. I am using the latest bespin revision and KDE 4.9.2. Any help is appreciated!

Fixed that yesterday night.
Comes with recent threaded kwin start and a race on the selection owner to check whether the compositor runs.
Was a nice bug to track down (because there's absolutely no backtrace or other hint or deterministic behavior on this)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
