Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

Does anyone have an idea what is going on. I would really like to use this style, since I've been using it from the first day I switched to KDE 4.

The compiler output is from BeShadowed, NOT from Bespin.
BeShadowed itself won't work with KDE >= 4.7 but Bespin has support for the new KWin shadows.

 Strange colors

by gravy on: Oct 17 2011

Score 50%

Hi, I'm getting some problems for some reason, that weren't happening for me on KDE 4.6, but is happening on 4.7. What's going on is, that some of the colors actually aren't going black like they used to in KDE 4.6.

This one shows that hovering over a menu is white, but should be black.
http://wstaw.org/m/2011/10/17/snapshot6.png

This one only shows up with active tabs on tab bars on dialogs with inverted colors.
http://wstaw.org/m/2011/10/17/snapshot7.png

And by the way, remember the glass window effect clipping problem I told you about one time, which was supposedly related to an Intel graphics card. The problem seems to be completely gone for me in KDE 4.7. :)

My color scheme and bespin config can be downloaded here.

It's happening on Kubuntu 11.10 to be more specific. That should make it more easily reproducible I hope.

The ColorRole for both items (active tab, hovered menu item) is "9" aka. QPalette::Base - judging from the lineedit in the second screenshot, that's some sort of bright color (near or white)

The tarball unfortunately doesn't include a colorscheme (the subtar is just empty) to verify that from here.

a) check the color roles in the "Tabs" & "Menus" pages
b) in doubt, store your current setting as a preset, export it and mail it to me (or upload it, preferably on pastebin or so - not on mediafire ;-)

a) The colors are respectively black and white, so I'd expect it to work.. (you'll see what I mean with the configs I gave you).
b) check below pastes. :)

I downloaded the file and the subtar looked alright to me. Either way, I've still pasted the configs for you instead. :)

The background color for Views, ie. QPalette::Base is white - since it's the assigned role, you get what's configured :P

OK. I changed my mind. I do want to use "Base" for my active tabs, but I see now that setting the tabs to "Base" is the one that's causing the problem. I'm still trying to fix it, but haven't yet been successful..

keep plasma bar unhidden while xbar menu is open

by eric on: Oct 19 2011

Score 50%

Hi,
I've put the xbar on an auto-hiding plasma bar at the top of the screen.

It's a bit hard to explain my problem in words, but I'll try anyway.

When I want to "open" a pulldown menu on the xbar, I move the mouse to the top of the screen. Now the plasma bar will be unhidden, and I can see the different pulldown menus of the xbar. Then I choose the pulldown menu that I think is the right one. When I move down the mouse (still inside the menu), the plasma bar will be hidden again.

My question is, is it possible to keep the plasma bar unhidden as long as a pulldown menu of the xbar is open? This will make it easy to choose a different pulldown menu when the first choice is not the right one.

For example, the application launcher menu, when put on this auto-hiding plasma bar, will keep the plasma bar unhidden as long as the application laucher menu is open.

I'm not quite sure about that, the panel reacts (timer delayed) on mouose-out events.
I could probably catch the hide() event and just reshow it, but that would probably flicker.

Have to test. (Since i rencently figured how f**** small 1366x768 is, i'll have to add an XBar server to the decoration and thus touch the code anyway.

The "effect" I'm looking for is like the classic application launcher menu and also the menu called "Plasma" on the xbar when the plasma desktop is activated. Both will open a pulldown menu while keeping the plasma bar unhidden even if the mouse has moved outside the plasma bar.

Yes, because they're part of the plama process.
The mouse is internally grabbed and the panel doesn't even notice it's lost.

I'll have to look a little deeper in the box of dirty tricks (tm) ;-)

 Blur effect on Yakuake/Konsole?

by Apfel on: Nov 14 2011

I like bespin very much. But what I really miss with bespin is the blur effect on yakuake. With oxygen it works fine, but with bespin there is no blur on Yakuake. Is this something special on oxygen like the transparency on alternating rows on some plasmoids (for ex. "events list")?

But thanks for bespin! Every time when I try oxygen again (because of blur on yakuake), I am back to bespin after 1-2 hours :)

"bespin config", "windows page" -> "translucent window"
check "blur", restart yakuake. works fine for me.

hmm, blur effect is enabled (on bespin and kwin), but it doesn't work.

Here with bespin...
http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/1113/yakuakebespin.png
and the same with oxygen...
http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/1503/yakuakeoxygen.png

I have just switched the style from bespin to oxygen. I have also tried to start yakuake with "yakuake --style oxygen", with bespin as default. But this also doesn't work.

What works fine with bespin and blur, are panels, plasmoids and translucent windows like this here...
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/7324/yakuakebespintranslucen.png
But normally I don't use translucent windows, except yakuake, which doesn't want to work.

Using newest nvidia-drivers on a Quadro FX770M (same as 9600M GT).

running "yakuake --style oxygen" does *not* work?

Sounds like yakuake is still running, try "kquitapp yakuake" first.
You /must/ restart to apply bespin blurring.

No. I mean that "blur" doesn't work, when I start yakuake with oxygen style (and bespin as standard). The style option works fine. Blur works only if I set oxygen as standard.

> You /must/ restart to apply bespin blurring.
Yes. I use bespin as my standard style since over a year now. I also make a cold boot every day. But I have never seen blur on yakuake with bespin.

Maybe its a graphics driver <> kwin problem.

That is weird - to say the least.
Please start yakuake with bespin, call "xprop | grep -i blur", click the yakuake window and post the output (if there's any)

figured it - it's because of the (generally wonky...) sliding out feature, no idea why this affects the offset but i'll have a look.

Setting the animation time to 0 in yakuake and restarting it will work around this.

addedndum: acktivating the "sliding popups" effect and having yakuake let kwin perform the animation will work as well.

The problem is triggered by the mask update and bespin updating the blur region with the show event (so when the region is updated, yakuake is heavily masked and the large number you observe is a negative offset)

"bespin config", "kwin decoration hints", set color to "Window" and gradient to "none" - will apply to all applications started from now on.

Is that what you meant? (no idea what would be special about systemsettings unless it's your only Qt application or you've a rule on it or all other windows)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
