Description:

A widget style for Qt4
- Pretty configurable
- More Mac than Windows - but no clone at all
- Don't ask me to port Baghira ;-)

As for what to do with GTK+ applications, have a look here:
http://arch-stuff.org/content/show.php?content=134123

It suites the default look pretty well. Set the "Default" titlebar background colors to 239/239/240 and the text to something dark/gray.

Thalics complete Bespin Guide is afaik still down, sorry :-(

 No icons...

by linuxfever on: Jul 13 2010

Score 50%

Hello,

I am trying to build the icon set. I have inkscape installed and I am executing the generate_kde_icons.sh script.

During the build, I get a a few errors such as "ignoring firewire" or "ignoring im-show-all" etc, but I guess that is nothing to worry about.

When the script finishes, I move the nmfnms folder to $HOME/.kde/share/icons but all the icons are blank, i.e. all the generated png files are just an empty transparent square.

Any idea what is wrong?

try to comment line generate_kde_icons.sh:112
# composite -blend ${alpha}x0 ....

you'll loose the ability to apply a global opacity level to the icon.
(some) recent versions of imagemagigk appear to have problems with this, though former reports referred to entire black icons.

graphicsmagick may not show this issue - on the other hand it could be graphicsmagick pretending to be imagmaick (that's usually ok) causing this trouble - no idea %-\

Would it be possible for you to create a new icon for the cpufreq tray? It's a pretty common application, mainly for laptop users. The original icons are pretty ugly ;)

Sorry for the long wait! The icons are usually placed in /usr/share/trayfreq.

These are all the names, though only those starting with "cpufreq" are important to me. Search google images for "cpufreq", firs image shows them well.
cpufreq-0.png cpufreq-50.png traybat-0.png traybat-20-charging.png traybat-40.png traybat-80-charging.png
cpufreq-100.png cpufreq-75.png traybat-100-charging.png traybat-20.png traybat-60-charging.png traybat-80.png
cpufreq-25.png traybat-0-charging.png traybat-100.png traybat-40-charging.png traybat-60.png traybat-charged.png

Any other info needed?
Thanks!

Hi, sorry myself :)

I committed the icons (named "gear[0-6].svg") but unfortunately cpufreq keeps them outside the icon theme structure, so i cannot add aliases (making them used automatically)

you'll likely be able to override them by placing them into ~/.local/share/cpufreq or ~/.cpufreq or a similar path (you'll actually have to try, sorry :-(

Hi! Problem is that possible "gears" (on my pc) are only 4 (plus an "empty" icon), not seven! :D
I like the idea, but it would need a processor with seven steps to work properly. Sorry if I didn't say it in the previous message.

Just I have one question:

is there any way of applying the bespin theme configuration to the GTK apps?

Thank you so much

short: nope, sorry.

long: there is in fact a wrapper style for gtk+ called gtk-qt but bespin exceeds the capabilities of gtk+ 2.x, so you'd have to use a "conservative" setup (in particular no hover inversions etc. and preferably "black on white") and still will face some "regressions" (since gtk+ cannot do tabs the way bespin does and applications like FF which invoke gtk+ by yet another wrapper will fail even more :-(

So, is there any particular gtk theme you would recommend. And if you don't mind telling us - what theme do you use for your gtk apps. And if there is a particular firefox theme (compatible with 3.6) that you use.

I'd say this heavily depends on your Bespin setup.

For the default look, have a look at "SlicknesS" or "Apotheosis" (where the latter one seems a bit buggy)

An alltime favorite is Milk (sth. called "Milke" is at a higher version and has round buttons) - Max' Alloy series looks a bit different from everything but will provide you an interesting comment on historic Aqua (though less glossy, think of a mix between milk and aqua)

If you're trying to mimic OSX, you shouldn't have a hard time finding a zillion Aqua clones of all generations and the default Aurora looks a bit "leopardish" as well

"Schwermetall" has a light and glassy attitude, while "Canus" (by toner) is a bit like a Platinum extrapolation

An intersting theme with partial inversion for structuration is "Azel"

Unlike bespin i switch them from time to time (matching the bespin mood de toujours :)

 Problem...

I get this error when I try to compile the source from the revision 1171. I'm using Opensuse 11.2:

enrico@linux-2xut:~/Scrivania/cloud/build> make
[ 10%] Built target QtBespin
[ 10%] Building CXX object CMakeFiles/bespin.dir/bespin.o
/home/enrico/Scrivania/cloud/bespin.cpp: In member function ‘void Bespin::Style::updateBlurRegions() const’:

make[2]: *** [CMakeFiles/bespin.dir/bespin.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/bespin.dir/all] Error 2

How can I fix this?

sorry, my bad - i accidently introduced a Qt (4.6 function dependency ie. you Qt is "too old")

it's removed in r1173 (wasn't required anyway - cnp lazyness ;-)

 Bespin + Scribus = freeze

Just noticed when using Bespin and I select File->Document Setup in Scribus the Dialog shows up but then Scribus freezes and runs at 100% cpu.
Doesn't happen with Oxygen. I'm using Qt 4.7 if this may be relevant.

works for me (Qt 4.6) - do you use inversion of modal dialogs and does the problem persist when deactivating it (ifff)

Do you happen to have gdb experience?
(That's a debugger ;-)

Well, I would be able to find a segfault using gdb but I am not aware of any standard procedure how gdb can be used in order to find freezes :).

Tried without inverted background, window opacity and tab transitions without any luck.

btw. also have latest KDE 4.5 rc installed.

just the same way ;-)
when the process freezes ast high CPU load that's usually an infinite loop. so you call scribus from gdb or attach to it and "continue" until it reaches the freeze. then terminate it and dump the stack.

terminal1:
gdb scribus
run
terminal2:
"ps -Af | grep scribus" -> $pid
kill $pid (NOT kill -9!!)
terminal1:
bt

should print the offending loop... hopefully.

hope this helps..
http://pastebin.com/VDiSRnVY

Thats funny cause I tried to find the problematic loops before using callgrind and those where on top of the whole list but thought that it wouldn't be of any use.

quick warning:
I also use gcc 4.5 with graphite enabled.. you never know what that stuff breaks but that would be my first real problem.

hmmm... not really sure but since it happens on layouting a frame (qscrollarea) content, it might be (wild guess) in the VisualFrame (though no idea why)

if you compile bespin yourself, please comment polish.cpp:639f

// else if (!widget->inherits("KPIM::OverlayWidget"))
// VisualFrame::manage(frame);

(the result will look a bit "different", but that's not so important for teh moment ;-)

I have got a issue in the color menu. When I make clic on the color dialog button, that dialog appears like a secondary window in the bespin settings, so I can't change the colors :(

I can't do it becouse I can't put the window of color dialog like the first window of work in the bespin settings.

Really I don't know how explain this, but, I believe you understand me...

I use Archlinux 2.6.34, Qt 4.6.3 and KDE 4.4.5 and bespin r1181

Thanks so much :)

this does only occur out of systemsettings, not from the standalone dialog ("bespin config"), right?

Anyway "svn up" - should be fixed since r1182

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
