Description:

This is a desktop applet for superkaramba that displays weather information and forecasts.

VERSIONS >= 12.0 REQUIRE SUPERKARAMBA V0.39, PYQT and IMAGEMAGICK

Export functionality in versions >= 14.0 requires the reportlab python modules.

OLDER VERSIONS THAT WORK WITH EARLIER SUPERKARAMBA RELEASES ARE STILL AVAILABLE ON THE DOWNLOADS SECTION ON MY SITE
************************************

You can click on the weather images to get more detail about the forecast for that day, or the current weather conditions. To install, just untar the tarball, where you keep your other superkaramba themes. Then run with the command:

superkaramba /path/to/themes/liquid_weather.theme

or launch from the superkaramba gui.

Go to the homepage, to get information on how to use the theme - there's a full manual/faq page there.

Features:

- Weather forecasts from weather.com or BBC or Accuweather for most cities/locations worldwide.
- Details of current conditions.
- Daily forecasts and weather details for today and the following 4 days.
- Hourly forecasts for the next 12 hours, if using weather.com as a data source.
- Set multiple cities for easy access.
- Moon phases if using weather.com as a data source.
- All sorts of different weather maps for all major world regions, including antarctica.
- Latest worldwide earthquake data.
- Notification of major storms (ie hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons) - NB don't rely on these when your personal safety is involved.
- View up to 5 web cams.
- All data updates automatically every 1, 2 or 3 hours.
- Multiple background and icon themes.
- Translated into 24 languages.
- Export forecasts via email or printer.
- Gui configuration for everything through the configuration menu.

LIQUID WEATHER NEEDS TRANSLATORS
********************************

Currently, I have good translators keeping the German, Italian, French, Finnish, Polish and Dutch translations up to date. I need translators for the other languages that are starting to get out of date, or who can do new languages. If you can help out, please email me - this is an easy way for non-coders to help out.

POST BUGS ON THE FORUMS ON MY WEBSITE
*************************************

There are now forums on my website. The format on the forums is far easier to navigate than the comments section here, and it's fully searchable. Please use the forums for discussing liquid weather/posting bugs, as it makes it easier for others to find fixes, and makes it easier for me to keep track of things.

Matt

Changelog:

1 June 2008

I've added a new iconset - called "Sticker". A simple icon theme with nice gradients. Check it out on the "Addons" page on http://liquidweather.net

24 May 2008

There is now a Mandriva rpm for liquidweather. Link on the download page on my site. I don't do Mandriva, so haven't tested it, so don't blame me if it's broken :-)

18 May 2008

In addition to fixing the weather.com issue in the latest version, I've now also fixed the last "old" version that worked with SK 0.38 and 0.39 - so you can now also download version 11.3 from the website as well.

17 May 2008

... and we're back. weather.com xml data feed should be fixed with this version :-)

11 May 2008

***WEATHER.COM DATA FEED IS BROKEN***

For some reason, weather.com has stopped providing data via my xml subscription. I am going to email them to find out what's going on. Hopefully this will be fixed shortly.

14.8

This release sees the addition of a simplified and traditional Chinese translation thanks to David Peng. I've also fixed the bug with the German translation.

14.7

The BBC parsing engine is broken. BBC changed their html. I have temporarily disabled BBC in the config dialog until fixed. If anyone wants to have a go at fixing it, feel free.

I've also added a Hindi translation thanks to Abhay.

14.6.1

A fix for a minor translation bug.

14.6

This release sees a new default background theme - I think it's very professional looking. It's called Black Cutouts - see the screenshots above. In addition, there are a number of bug fixes, that have been laying dormant for a while:

* Fixed a networking bug that meant that downloading data failed when first opening the theme - I can't believe more people haven't reported this bug - it's a major.

* Text resizing in the detail panel now works properly for the "emerge text" animation.

* Fixed a but with the daily forecast panel not opening and closing properly after repeated operation.

* Other minor tidy ups.

New Iconset

I've released a new iconset. Nice simple wireart icons. Check the "addons" page on the liquidweather website (link below).

14.5

More bug fixes:

* Error message popups are now translated
* Fixed a bug that corrupted the locations list when locations were deleted from the saved locations list in the config dialog
* Updates to the following translations:
o Italian
o French
o German
o Polish
o Latvian
o Swedish
o Romanian
o Serbian(Cyr)
o Serbian(Lat)

really matti, i appreciated your work, but this is getting out of hand meanwhile.

couldn´t you provide a simple link, to download your theme?
a forum link as a download link, or a webpage as a download link is not what i understand as a *download*. you could put that easyly in the description.

i know it hurts you but i am getting more and more pissed about this, serioiusly.
it simply sucks!

i do not want to visit a webpage whereever just to download a file.

I don't provide a direct link, because, when I did, people never read the manual that I provide on my website, and I received a hell of a lot of email support requests for things that were dealt with on my site. The amount of support emails I now get is miniscule compared to when I provided a direct download.

Furthermore, the forum provides a place to provide and get help, which is easily searchable by the rest of the world, unlike the comments section on this site, or my mail server.

If that annoys you, that's a price I'm willing to pay, in order to give myself more time to develop liquid weather, and spend time with my family.

Furthermore, you don't need to visit a webpage. Just use wget:

wget 'http://liquidweather.net/lwp-version.skz'

simple.

Life sucks.. Sometimes its not in the users best interest or the developers to spoon feed when it becomes a problem for them.

If it really bothers you that much create your own weather widget and put the download links how you like it.

Simply put.

Sorry, missed that. It's in the next release. I've also added you to my translators mailing list, so you'll get notification of updates for translating. Thanks for helping out with liquid weather.

It's not that hard:

wget http://liquidweather.net/lwp-10.0.skz

Look, see above for the reasons why I don't provide a direct link. To be honest I don't care if you use liquid weather or not. There are 300,000 people that seem to have a different view from yours.

But I'm really sorry to have stuffed you around. I'd hate for you to be inconvenienced in the slightest. What I should really do is provide you with a direct link, and then have to answer the 100 or so support emails a day that I used to have to answer before I stopped with a direct link. Then you wouldn't be "stuffed around" anymore. You also wouldn't have any further development of this software, as at that point I'd get so fucked off with this that I'd throw in the towel. Furthermore, the website generates the revenue that provides the bandwidth that allows you to download the theme.

Use wget if you've got a major problem with clicking your mouse twice.

I'm not sure why you are even bothering to respond Matti. Ok, maybe once because you are a nice guy (hell, you took the time to create one of the best KDE widgets and then give it away!).

I guess free isn't good enough for some. Next you'll be asked to make house calls to install it.

A weather widget that works and doesn't take up huge amounts of real estate and looks good. I like it!

 A Few Issues.

by TristanMike on: Feb 25 2006

I like it a lot, very nice widget. I actually just found this 2 days ago, before the release of v10 and i must say i liked it. I had some stupid permissions error when i tried to install via the Superkaramba downloader, so i installed locally(after apparently uninstalling the old one). A couple of things i noticed that might be of intrest and gave me some trouble. First, when it first initalized, it kept updating, repeating over and over. As soon as it caught some info it updated again. I uninstalled, removed all folders and files in /home/usr/.superkaramba then reinstalled. I had to reconfigure from scratch, but that went away. Next I tried to select my town and all the configurations i like (metric) but the info was for somewhere else. Where? I don't know, but not where I'm from. It read +17 degrees but i live in Canada and it's hardly 17 degrees, -4 C according to "kweather". So i uninstalled, removed files, reinstalled and this time I got a city close to where I live because.... ...It wont keep the town I'm from, or switch to anywhere else for that matter. It finds it from weather.com and lists it, but when I select it, it doesn't change, it stays as the city I set it too originally. It seems I have to "reload" the entire widget but it still wont keep my home town. Also I tried somewhere big, like Toronto, Ont. Canada, and it wont list Toronto. It shows Missasagua instead. All around I've been finding this new version pretty buggy for the short while I've used it (as it appears it's release date is today) but perhaps I have something configured wrong...any suggestions? I had no problem with the version just before this...nice widget none-the-less, keep up the good work.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
