Description:

This is a desktop applet for superkaramba that displays weather information and forecasts.

VERSIONS >= 12.0 REQUIRE SUPERKARAMBA V0.39, PYQT and IMAGEMAGICK

Export functionality in versions >= 14.0 requires the reportlab python modules.

OLDER VERSIONS THAT WORK WITH EARLIER SUPERKARAMBA RELEASES ARE STILL AVAILABLE ON THE DOWNLOADS SECTION ON MY SITE
************************************

You can click on the weather images to get more detail about the forecast for that day, or the current weather conditions. To install, just untar the tarball, where you keep your other superkaramba themes. Then run with the command:

superkaramba /path/to/themes/liquid_weather.theme

or launch from the superkaramba gui.

Go to the homepage, to get information on how to use the theme - there's a full manual/faq page there.

Features:

- Weather forecasts from weather.com or BBC or Accuweather for most cities/locations worldwide.
- Details of current conditions.
- Daily forecasts and weather details for today and the following 4 days.
- Hourly forecasts for the next 12 hours, if using weather.com as a data source.
- Set multiple cities for easy access.
- Moon phases if using weather.com as a data source.
- All sorts of different weather maps for all major world regions, including antarctica.
- Latest worldwide earthquake data.
- Notification of major storms (ie hurricanes, cyclones and typhoons) - NB don't rely on these when your personal safety is involved.
- View up to 5 web cams.
- All data updates automatically every 1, 2 or 3 hours.
- Multiple background and icon themes.
- Translated into 24 languages.
- Export forecasts via email or printer.
- Gui configuration for everything through the configuration menu.

LIQUID WEATHER NEEDS TRANSLATORS
********************************

Currently, I have good translators keeping the German, Italian, French, Finnish, Polish and Dutch translations up to date. I need translators for the other languages that are starting to get out of date, or who can do new languages. If you can help out, please email me - this is an easy way for non-coders to help out.

POST BUGS ON THE FORUMS ON MY WEBSITE
*************************************

There are now forums on my website. The format on the forums is far easier to navigate than the comments section here, and it's fully searchable. Please use the forums for discussing liquid weather/posting bugs, as it makes it easier for others to find fixes, and makes it easier for me to keep track of things.

Matt

Changelog:

1 June 2008

I've added a new iconset - called "Sticker". A simple icon theme with nice gradients. Check it out on the "Addons" page on http://liquidweather.net

24 May 2008

There is now a Mandriva rpm for liquidweather. Link on the download page on my site. I don't do Mandriva, so haven't tested it, so don't blame me if it's broken :-)

18 May 2008

In addition to fixing the weather.com issue in the latest version, I've now also fixed the last "old" version that worked with SK 0.38 and 0.39 - so you can now also download version 11.3 from the website as well.

17 May 2008

... and we're back. weather.com xml data feed should be fixed with this version :-)

11 May 2008

***WEATHER.COM DATA FEED IS BROKEN***

For some reason, weather.com has stopped providing data via my xml subscription. I am going to email them to find out what's going on. Hopefully this will be fixed shortly.

14.8

This release sees the addition of a simplified and traditional Chinese translation thanks to David Peng. I've also fixed the bug with the German translation.

14.7

The BBC parsing engine is broken. BBC changed their html. I have temporarily disabled BBC in the config dialog until fixed. If anyone wants to have a go at fixing it, feel free.

I've also added a Hindi translation thanks to Abhay.

14.6.1

A fix for a minor translation bug.

14.6

This release sees a new default background theme - I think it's very professional looking. It's called Black Cutouts - see the screenshots above. In addition, there are a number of bug fixes, that have been laying dormant for a while:

* Fixed a networking bug that meant that downloading data failed when first opening the theme - I can't believe more people haven't reported this bug - it's a major.

* Text resizing in the detail panel now works properly for the "emerge text" animation.

* Fixed a but with the daily forecast panel not opening and closing properly after repeated operation.

* Other minor tidy ups.

New Iconset

I've released a new iconset. Nice simple wireart icons. Check the "addons" page on the liquidweather website (link below).

14.5

More bug fixes:

* Error message popups are now translated
* Fixed a bug that corrupted the locations list when locations were deleted from the saved locations list in the config dialog
* Updates to the following translations:
o Italian
o French
o German
o Polish
o Latvian
o Swedish
o Romanian
o Serbian(Cyr)
o Serbian(Lat)

i have the same problem as in the version 12.5

When I open the hourly forecast the window won't disappear when i click again on the today symbol - it will open further hourly forecast windowa until I start the theme again.

Maybe it is because there is no data in the forecast window for the accu weather

best regards rene

It's a problem with the metric conversion which I haven't had time to look at. I'll fix it later today.

Fixed (I hope). Caused by the python file being (inadvertently) saved with the wrong encoding. Took a looooooooooong time to figure that out.

 annyoances

by cRoMo on: Oct 5 2006

Score 50%

I expirience lots of annyoance from lwp on my laptop. That's because I not always have an internet connection available. In such cases, I hate that dialog that says lwp was unable to fetch data when beeing loaded. Secondly, it doesn't check for any connection after that, so in case I become connected I have to restart the whole theme manually. Thus it would be nice if it checked every couple of mins for connection and if it has it, download the data needed obviously. Also, while beeing without connection it could display something more informative than 0C degrees that could be misleading in some cases (freezing in the outside :)).
Lastly, I hate that picture displayed when lwp downloads the data. It should be possible to disable it.

Anyway, thanks for this usefull and beautiful piece of software :)

1. You can disable network error notifications in the config tab - look in the "General" tab.

2. When you get a connection, just right click the theme and click "Update theme".

3. It shouldn't show "0 C". If it's got old data, it should display that. If it doesn't, it should exit.

4. When the picture comes up, just close your eyes - problem solved.

1. Yes indeed, I didn't notice that before.
2. Yes, I know that. I wrote in my prev comment that I do it this way everytime I have a connection, but this is not the solution. In my opinion such eyecandy software should not need me to restart the applet for it to update the data, it should do it automatically.
3. Then I guess it's a bug.
4. Yeah, sure. That's the _very_ good idea. Again, this is meant to be eyecandy software. I guess you just don't like constructive critique then...

Also, have a look at this screenshoot:
http://cromo.klej.net/3.png
You can see that temperature in the basic mode is shown too close to the clouds picture.

 Takes ages to run

by cRoMo on: Oct 16 2006

Score 50%

For some reason, lwp stopped working properly. It takes about 5 mins for it to show the weather information after beeing run. From console output I can see it downloads all the weather forecast data quickly and then it stops. Last thing I see is:
sunrise : N/A
sunset : N/A
Then when it finally loads after 5 mins or so, I can see:
Cities for config menu:
['Wellington, New Zealand']
00
00

Nothing else, no error, no warning, no nothing. Deleting ~/.superkaramba won't help either. I got no idea why is that.

days. When I came back to work this
morning it is hanging superkaramba.

Thanks for the update, Matti. I know how hard it is at times to overcome the occasional bout of apathy. What usually helps is knowing that your efforts are really appreciated.

Cheers

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
