Description:

Smooth iconset for KDE -- Created using Adobe Illustrator 10. If anyone is interested in a window decoration/widget theme, and knows how to code it, let me know -- It's already being done for GTK/Metacity, and all it needs is someone to transfer the look to QT/KWin.

Changelog:

0.8 - A few new apps, devices, toolbar actions, plus tar/zip icons, 213 icons (LGPL license)
0.7 - Basic action icons(25), source mimes, and new apps/devices/filesys, 183 icons. Removed 128x sizes.
0.6 - New apps, 117 icons
0.5 - New mimes, new apps, new device, and added specialized folders, 90 icons
0.4 - 15 mimetypes (tell me what you think), 55 icons
0.3 - All new filesystems (new folder!), 38 icons
0.2 - Added basic devices, 29 icons
0.1 - Pre-release pilot, 19 icons

 404 fix

by Xanadu on: May 5 2003

Hey!

I just thought I'd point out that you need to change your link on this page (or the file you're pointing to).

The link here points to:

/themes/amaranth/amaranth-default-0.4.tar.gz

But the real file name is:

amaranth-default-.4.tar.gz

(note the lack of the zero in the file name)

I just thought I'd mention it.

 Great, but... :-)

Great artistwork! I really think it looks good but there is two major things that makes me keep Crystal.

1) Crystal is kinda greater, and the old 2.x Hi-color also.
2) They looks very Gnomish, great for the KDE community that it can please everyone but I can't stand them to long.

Good luck / Greetings from Scania, Europe.

Syllten is syllten. (Scanians appreciate the humor in that. :-) )

 Yes, and...

I have to concede both points:
1) Crystal is infinitely better, sure, if you like it. It's definitely more complete (slightly more than 55 icons, I'd say). Everaldo's a professional; I believe he was paid for Crystal by Conectiva. I've done jobs before, but never for Linux. It's cool, though.
2) Yea, GNOME strives for photo-realistic icons, like OS X, and these do fall more under that category than they do under KDE's "Cartoonish" motif. In fact, they are currently being ported to Gnome2.

I have to agree with you, but I still like mine. Maybe I'm just prejudiced :)

p.s. Since Amaranth isn't a complete theme, I've got it overlayed on top of Crystal.

KDE really needs this kind of look. Keep up the great work. As far as comparing these to crystal, you can't. They are both completely different. Good job man!

These are really nice looking, but they're a little too grey for my personal liking. Keep up the good work, though.

The app icons look completely different from the rest, they look out of place. If they look more like the others i would defitinitely use these!

 So the color...

by Doches on: Jun 13 2003

...is a bad idea? That's where most of the recent additions are, and I've been trying to make them as colorful as possible. Would it be a better idea to make the original (grey-ish) icons colorized, or to tone down the saturation on the newer ones?

I'd definitely tone down the saturation... The greyer tones are much more artistic and appealing... Your first set of icons really look the best. If anyone wants colorful "tele-tubby" icons, let them use Winblows XP. Keep up the good work.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
