Karamba is a program improving the eyecandy of KDE.

More information about Karamba can be found here:

Any kamikaze pilots that can give it a try?

 THANKS MDonoughe

Your idea has worked! It took me a while to figure out how to save the profile and at the same time make the menubar disappear, but than I remembered KDE could be customized entirely and I just set a shortcut for it.

While this works a lot better than the previousone it still does not function quite as I want. When I click the desktop I get Konqueror's functions instead of desktop ones and I also can not add or see any of the icons I had on my desktop until I quit this embedded version of Konqueror. What i would like is something like the background program except with clickable links, functioning scrollbar and other basic functions like allowing you to check checkmarks etc. I do not want it to interfere my desktop and I want to be able to put icons on it. I don't mind having an adress bar, back, forward, print, and stop on it either as long as I can still use them and at the same time put icons covering parts of them.

There are also some other minor problems where Konqueror snaps out of this mode. For example if you make it full screen while using your technique than exit full screen it becomes a normal konqueror window.

 popup windows

Karamab is really cool, maybe the best is that people can submit a lot of different themes.

My suggestion is: can you add popup windows? it will be nice (information, etc...).

I'm not a Python programer, but isn't there an X library or something like that for Python interfaces?

Take a look at this site. Read down the page. You will see your error explained.

http://developer.kde.org/build/compilationfaq.html

I think you are missing the xlibs dev package.

by far, some of the best eyecandy ive ever seen w/ a kde desktop is with Karamba! Thanks a tonne, i was getting pretty envious of konfabulator users on osx...

how will karamba grow to include more konfabulator-like features? is that the plan?

I havn't run konfabulator myself. But as far as I know you make your konfabulator stuff as java scripts.
I havn't planned Karamba to be this flexible. But I have thought of making it possible to close, start, and update Karamba themes from a script using a dcop interface.

This would give enormous potential for
really cool things. Scripts could create the karamba configuration file required for the output they want to display! Scripts could change the configuration file they were run from and get it reloaded on the fly!

Go for it!

 Maximized Apps idea

by techniq on: Apr 12 2003

I had brought up the idea about not having maximized apps covering up karamba, but have it configurable in the theme, as it would only really benefit themes that are top bars, etc. I checked out a nice little app called kuake today, and they had a comment on how to maybe do this.

They said to use NETstrut. This makes no sense to me, as I not much of a programmer (at least yet), but might help someone else implement this, if they so chose so.

Once again, thank you for a wonderful app.

Thanks for your tip.
I have tested some strut stuff now, so there will be some support for this in the next version.

 I got it to work!

I figred out that I was using something like Karamba 0.12... so that sucked. But now, I have decided it is one of my favorite programs of all time. One of the things I was missing from Windows was a nice little program called DesktopX (That I had to d/l off KaZaA), and now I get a better version, for a better OS, for free!

Thanks, dude. You've made my desktop.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
