Submitted:  Mar 12 2007

Description:

This is a recreation of gonx, thanks to Nicolas Sassiat:

http://cotito.free.fr/projects/gonx+index.html

Uses real alpha blend and color transformation in HSV space thanks to Qt4.

This is an alpha release, please talk about ideas, critics and bugs. Mockups with new ideas would be superb! especially tabs.

Thanks to scream for his "many lines" critic, and all others who have left his comment here. I need feedback to make this style great.

Instructions for installing

$ qmake
$ make
$./install.sh

The install script may fail, you are advised, just tested on my experimental kde-trunk account. To uninstall use uninstall.sh

Thanks for testing it. Thanks to Vladimir Pouzanov for the Gentoo ebuild!

 Tabs border

by scream on: Mar 12 2007

Score 50%

I did not install this theme, I'm sorry, as I don't have any KDE4 app up and running. But as I can see from the screenshots, it's main idea is really nice. I admit I'm not really into minimalistic themes, but this one is actually quite serene, not trying to be too minimalistic. I really like the check and radio boxes and also all kind of sliders on screenshot #1. The pushbuttons though are a bit too standard. Try to find something better for those, the round corners look out of place imo. Either completely flat, or round corners and more 3D effect on them. But what really came to my eyes is that there are too many lines. Try to change the border around the tabs for example, so that they clearly differ from the groupbox borders. That would already make the screen way uncluttered.
Hope this helps =).

I also got the "many lines" issue. I am going to remove the shadow for the groupboxes and try a softer color.

Thanks for the comment

Or maybe do it like the domino style does it: Give group boxes another background. The whole groupbox, without a border, but with a darker bg.

You can use this theme with qt4-apps, you dont need kde4 installed! And if you did this you could see:
WOW!
I LOVE the Menu-style, just because of the "many lines". It gives an "abstract art" feeling ;)

Looks super for an alpha release!

I'm not using KDE 4 but I might try this when KDE 4 is out.

:D

 Beautiful!

This is plain gorgeous! It has the realistic - layered, hovering paper feel.

The buttons do detract from that a bit, but what a must-have!

Just saw the Oxygen theme demo video, and this will kick Oxygen's ass!

Try making the buttons similar in style to the pull-down boxes and other "floating" elements. You can probably differentiate the buttons well by either making the border thicker and/or rounding the corners.

I am so looking forward to this thing!

Oxygen demo video? Is there a demo for the style out there?

I must ask the same question as the others: What Oxygen preview movie?

This theme is indeed beautiful. ^_^ Floating elements on top of floating panels, with floating shapes above them... Whoa. o.O Who knew subtlety could be such such a visual trip?

Even though I can't get KDE4 to run as an environment, and can't even get many individual apps to run, I'll certainly look forward to using something like this!

I will be nice to have this theme/style for KDE 3.x too. I am looking forward for it :).

 Little more flat ?

I hope for a little more flat scrollbar and progressbar. Maybe just the "grips" (damn, I don't know the name).

I'd also love this for kde 3.5 ...

Great looking !

 awesome!

Hi,

all your elements look awesome, by far the best Qt theme I have ever seen (actually I wanted to do a gonx-inspired style for kde3 (called konx, it's here on kde-look, for those interested), but never did it that beautiful as you did, thanks a lot.

The only widget, which I think can be made better is the pushbutton, especially when it has the blue focus border.

keep up the good work,

Martin

Thanks for your comment. I have been using konx. Some ideas are from it. The progress bar for example.

The pushbutton is a copy from the original gonx. Do you have any idea? can you waste 5 minutes and make a picture?

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
