This is an extended (:P) mockup of the second screenshot from http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=30012 .
This is only a mockup, a picture to show an idea.

(Note step 2: I have written "when he", but it can of course be a she too. However May fix it someday...

Additional ideas:

sofiasmartis: A "More >" button that pops up the context menu

sofiasmartis: A button for configuring the actions

TheNacho: Each drive should have its own icon in the top bar, and its own dropdown menu (like with the current "storage media" kicker-plugin)

pearluck & Sebien: "Non-removable devices" in a second blue-titled section.

Sebien: Add a progressbar showing how full the volumes are.

You can find the wallpaper here:

The icons I used are from "nuoveXT" and can be found here:

I just love this style (menu, colors...) ! Hope to see something like that one day :)

And your idea is good too ^__^

yes, yes, yes, more, more... more efficient.

Excellent! The recently introduced pop up when a device is connected 'win-like' is disturbing, this idea is by far much more efficient.

Again: really really good! : )

Minimalism trough efficiency, never trough deficiency.

It's exactly the sort of thing I tought to.

Please, go for it in KDE 4!

But I have an important enhancement to add to this menu:

Please add a progressbar showing how full the volumes are like those ones:

Yes, this comes from Vista, but this is a very good idea.

I have two external hard-drives and they are always near-full. Every times I add some files to them, I have to start KDF. I use Alt+F2, so it is quite fast, but other people may ressort to the KMenu, which is a slow method only to get one basic information, without talking about the second it takes to load the app.

I'm in favour or removing all those very-small utilities like KDF and integrate the information they provide into more common places.

The same comments goes for USB pens.

And if possible, include "non-removable devices" in a second blue-titled section. So I have access to the size remaining on my internal hard-drives. THIS will completely remove the need for KDF.

I like that idea :)
Thanks for your comment. I regret that I don't have time to modify the mockup, but I'll add your idea to the description.

None by the moment

Is still a hell lot better than the real implementation :)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
