Description:

A kool dock for KDE. It attemps to resemble the Mac OSX dock. This is improved koolDock v0.3 (which is base on ksmoothdock 2.1), which isn't my program, but it isn't officailly developed for about two years.

Features:

App Launcher.
On Screen text display (over icons).
Drag&Drop app list.
Auto-Hide.
Nice hide-show animation.
Transparency.
Xinerama support.
Others.

If you experience problems compiling KoolDock please do the following:
#
# make -f Makefile.cvs
# ./configure
# make; make install

IMPORTANT: For GNOME users - if you experience problems with launchers (can't open and edit), you probably don't have KDEbase istalled. Installing this package should solve this problems.

IMPORTANT: If you have something wrong in settings, and kooldock don't appear, you can run
# kooldock -o
to have preferences window at start.

If you have any problems or bugs with kooldock, you can post information about it in comments or send it to bisiek op.pl (after bisiek insert 'at' symbol).

I prepare only source and I probably can't help with packgages made by other people.

If configure script fails while checking X server, you probably need to install the xlibs-dev package. If it won't help try these: build-essensial libqt3-mt-dev libqt3-compat-header kdelibs4-dev kdebase-dev. Thanks to Mrmonday for the solution.

SVN repository checkout:
svn co https://kooldock.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/kooldock kooldock

I can't continue developing Kooldock - I won't stop working on it, but that work will much slower than now. If you want to help - I will help you to understand the code.

Hi, I'm not too much of a linux geek, but I know enough to get my way around. I came upon your app (which by looks alone looks great) and decided to add it to my desktop. During the ./configure process I get this:

checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cpp
configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check
See `config.log' for more details.

I checked the config.log for any suggestions as to what went wrong, but I cant seem to find anything. Please help!

I got the same error, and I have g++ 3.4 installed in Kubuntu 64-bit.

Kooldock 3.x was included in the Kubuntu distro, but it lacks the Speed/Location tab, and I want kooldock at the top.

First: Great work!!

I tried out the svn-version and have a problem:
sometimes kooldock is disappearing when changing the workspace. when I go over the place where it should be, the text still appears but not the dock

Hi

1. Do you use beryl/compiz?
2. Do you use kooldock's option 'stay below windows when not used'?

 COMPIZ BERYL ???

PROBLEMS with COMPIZ / BERYL ???

I got problems with Compiz. So I deactivated the xosd* - section
in "/home/~/.kde/share/config/kooldockrc

......
showNames=0
speedControl=0
#xosdBold=1
#xosdColor=#f1f1f1
#xosdFont=Albany AMT
#xosdItalic=1
#xosdShadowColor=#000000
#xosdShadowOffset=2
#xosdSize=17
zoomSpeed=20

and "Kooldock" is now running without problems with my settings:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=67013
Maybe after changing the settings of Kooldock, one has to
deactivate it again.

Hope, that helps to fix it.

 Help !

by melanopsis on: Nov 13 2007

Score 50%

I installed kooldock via yast. The problem is that I can't get it run. I use OpenSuse 10.3, KDE 3.5.8 r21.2 and compiz 0.6.2.3.1. I believe that the program isn't properly installed. Installation created an icon under applications/utilities/desktop but when I click on it, it logs me out and restart the session and nothing happens as you log back in.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

 Running Kooldock

by JohnRandom on: Nov 26 2007

I just installed the kooldock .deb package on my Debian / Lenny. Invoking Kooldock from console results in the following lines:

~$ X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 20
Minor opcode: 0
Resource id: 0x36ae140

while I was writing these comment the error repeated as:

X Error: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) 3
Major opcode: 20
Minor opcode: 0
Resource id: 0x1b662b5

Can anyone give me some hints on that? I'm using kde 3.5.7.

(I did also post that in another Thread, but i thought it would be better, so re-post it here.)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
