Description:

This is a plugin for noatun which will display on-screen status messages as your music plays. It is currently only capable of displaying the MP3 filename as it plays, but I'm quickly working on implementing all of the features you'd expect this to do (volume display, etc).

Originally, I intended to use the freely available (gpl'ed) XOSD library to write this plugin. Unfortunately, I found that (a) the xosd interface is pretty ugly, (b) it was multithreaded, and at the time KDE was not, and (c) the xosd interface is REALLY ugly.

As a result, I've implemented a native KDE class (actually, I guess it's technically a Qt widget) which provides the exact same functionality as xosd does, without all of the nastiness. I think I will continue to develop and use this widget, as it seems to be at least the functional equivalent of libxosd, without all of the dirty C nastiness.

Changelog:

0.09-RELEASE:
-Added the option to display the currently playing filename (w/ full path) instead of track info.
-Added the ability to adjust the amount of time text appears on the screen for (display timeout).
-Various bugfixes (it's still a touch buggy, though)

0.08-RELEASE:
-Noatun-OSD has finally been ported to KDE3.
-Native support for anti-aliased fonts!
FINALLY have finished the "Shadowed Text" mode. It looks SMOOTH!

Note: This software is only supported in Qt/KDE3, due to changes in Qt3. Sorry, folks. E-mail me if you want to download an older version...

 Hotkeys+Xosd replace

by metalhedd on: Dec 2 2002

is it possible to use this new Widget to implement a solution for those of us with multimedia keyboards, so thats its not really tied directly to Noatun, but to kde in general, and can launch konqueror windows, open media players, control volume... etc. basically a full scale replacement for hotkeys+xosd or lineakd (both are pretty shoddy, I agree, xosd is ugly)
