Description:

"Steel Icons" is an icon set for KDE comprised of Steel/Silver icons with shadows. I know everybody loves the Crystal/Aquafusion/Marbles Icons (with the exception of aquafusion, I do -- its just too blue! :) but I saw Metrope, and thought, wow, those don't look like they're trying to be OS X, they look like, well, like Linux (actually, like KDE; I hate Gnome's look, it just looks childish). So I set out to design some icons that weren't based on OS X, Windows, or who-knows what else. Tell me what you think, please.

Changelog:

1.2.5 - Straightened out version numbers with themes.freshmeat.org, added apps/devices, 153 icons

02/12/03 - New Screenshots (no liquid-stipples)

0.3 - Completely redone mimetypes, redone apps, and new apps/filesystems icons. Design is generally softer and less harsh

0.2 - Hard drive icons have been added for KDE, Linux, Windows, and MacOS. There are also icons in different colors for a few apps, and the old trash icon has been replaced.

0.1 - Initial Release

excellent work, I like these very much. I have to agree though, this seems like it may be the type of icon set that either looks great with whatever theme you use or terrible. Keep it up though!

Telex, you suggested not overdoing the mimetypes, are the (few) ones included overdoing the "steel" motif?

They're very nice, but I'm not really sure what a desktop full of them would look like.

Perhaps if you took away the gradient effect and made them plain white with a nice black outline, and then had the metallic icon on top of that?

A non-bluish icons set !
It's amazing... someone are able to think a icon set without using the blue.
It's fantastics ! Marvellous ! Superbe ! Extraordinaire !

It's the better Icon set I never saw on KDELOOK.org ! No fucking blue !

Hope, you will give us other icons like this one!

These are really imaginative and well-done. Sweet. I think the shape of the trash icon might be a little hard to parse, but overall they look really professional. Are you going to develop a whole theme?

These are truly excellent. I'm not sure they're my favorite, but they're definately the most original I've seen in a while. I'd use em.

Good work!

THANKS!

I was going to ask for a "steel" theme (i was going to call it "metallica") here for ages, but never had the courage, in this sea of blue glass and water ;-)

Your icons are really WAY beyond what i had imagined, really something different!
keep up the good job!

fred

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
