Description:

This is my idea of a new Konqueror in KDE4.

The desing is based in this mockup:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=28476
made by eriol:
http://www.kde-look.org/usermanager/search.php?username=eriol

I have done an HTML&JavaScript preview of the mockup. You can see it by clicking in "Homepage" or "download" section.

The explanation of this mockup is in "download" section too.

TODO:

- Make a preview of a splitted window to see how it looks.
- Make a preview of the audio collection (like amaroK, should be the same).
- Show the files containing in the TAR file in the right "info" column instead of the big icon.

More ideas? changes? improvements?

Changelog:

VERSION 1.1:

- Added a "Clear location" and "Go" buttons in the location bar.
- The float menu is vertical instead of horizontal.
- The "Up" button appears in web browser mode too.
- The "Refresh" and "Stop" buttons are the same: when the page or document finishes loading the "Stop" button becomes into "Refresh" button (the same behaviour as Opera, that works perfectly).
- Added a "my Home" button in the specific bar in file browse mode.

VERSION 1.0:

- Initial release.

 Refresh / Stop

Don't know if that was already said, but i think it would be cool, if the refresh button changed to the stop button as long as a web page or thumbnails are loading (like in safari or opera) instead of having two seperate buttons. This is useful because you don't need these two buttons at the same time so it saves some space and it looks cool :)

Some suggestion for the infobar on the right side: It would be nice if the function of the current statusbar in konqueror would be integrated. This means if no Objects are selected information like "there are 207 objects in this folder (3 folders and 204 files) and it has a size of 12,3 MB" should be visible there.

Definitively I wrote about it in the explanation document of the mockup:

"If you don't select a file the "info column" will show the properties of the actual folder (size, containing files, may be some actions as "compress", "create backup"...)."

;)

Yes, I didn't know that feature of Opera and Safari, I will add it.

About your second proposal I think I wrote exactly the same in the explanation of the mockup. Anyway I'll try to do a preview of that.

Thanks for your comment.

I think that quote from your explanation "Konqueror should be more powerful for advanced users and easier for beginning users than now." is essential :) I like this idea.

I think that not only Konqueror should be like that, all software (desktop software) should be as easy to use as it's possible.
There are millions of people who don't care about options, configuring etc. at all! Just as my sister, she uses computer to chat, send emails, watch moviers and listen music. I don't belive that she will ever use any of "configure" buttons in her whole PC. Really.

PLD rulez :D

 menu

I like everything (local and remote links
folders, per-tab toolbar, etc.) but the
menu. Menu it's too hidden for my personal
tastes, I'm using menus 50% of the times
and adding a click just to show isn't good,
IMHO.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
