Description:

This is my Idea for a new Dock Bar in KDE4/Plasma!

The K-Menu is replaced with a circular menu, which makes easier and intuitiv to go through apps.

A special thank to Didi R, how made this fantastic flash!

 Pie menu

by alby on: Jan 15 2006

Score 50%

Pie menus are a well-known usability improvement (equal mouse distance for every item being just one of the pro's). I would really like to be able to choose, at environment level (a global switch in Kcontrol), between traditional list menus and pie menus. But this would require a backend toolkit implementation... Trolltech, please...
However, it must be said that Kmenu, when placed in traditional spots (corners), would benefit from these much less than context / pop-up menus...

 Patents

Isn't this patented by Alias, the developer of Maya?

They use it in Maya, Sketchbook, Studiotools, etc.

I like it, though, but it should not be used from the dock, maybe from wherever you click

i'm not sure if this is the "right style" of Kmenu, but i have to agree, that classical Kmenu is obsolete and Plasma is the right project to change it and to show a new way :)

It's very cool, I saw the animation, and seems good.
I think that unselected entries needs to be greyed out in order to gain focus on the choosen element (it's difficult to describe it I know) so if you choos multimedia other section should be greyed and unselectable until you close the active section, for example by clicking inside the circular area (outside should close the entire kmenu)

 Lines

I liked th first version with the little lines leading to each menu item. Make it look neater. It should be an option.

 Hmmm

But what would happen if there were more than five folders at the top level of the K-menu? If you had even only 10 then this would be unworkable.

then again, as long as the old-style K-menu is kept as an option then I'm sure that isn't too much of a problem.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
