Awsome idea, but it would largely depend on the software makers - for example, maybe that K3B's author will not make an effort to make such a modification to the program. (I chose K3B for no reason at all - maybe 'cause of the length of the name :) )

K3b have little onTop box for indicating status. I think if KDE4 gather together tasks, developers of other programs will use this advantage.

This is a great idea- windows for things like copying just get in the way. This is a great idea that not even Apple or Microsoft have thought of!

 show on mouse over

I take it this would be a karamba style, only showing when no windows sit on top, I think it would be handy to have a button on the taskbar, to force it to the front on mouse over, for easy access.

At anyrate, good idea, will make the desktop less cluttered.

I have to admit, this looks really intriguing. Obviously it would require some aid on the part of application developers, but I think it's worth it.

Taht would make things much easier. Since I moxtly use KDE apps and KDE Apps would have this implemented I thinks its time to chow it to the Devs...

 Incredible idea.

Very, very good idea.

But: There're time when I happen to need all of that silly space-eating schmutz, for instance all the menu options on the Konqueror.

It would be perfect if KDE 4's default behavior was that simplified, beautiful interface, and a key-combination would transition it into the normal, more feature-full version. For instance, it would normally look like that, but I could hit ALT-F9, and it would switch to the normal/more cluttered view. Once I have what I want done finished, I just hit ALT-F9 again, and it goes back.

Awesome idea!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
