Description:

SOME REQUEST - a lot of you guy's were asking for binaries for their distros,
so please if you could build one and mail it to me i would post them ASAP, 10X:)

Hi there,

this is the deKorator kwin deco,
deKorator is based on the HOWTO: KWin Window Manager Decorations posted in here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=6332
and done by Brandybuck, 10x david:)
the man that responsible for all the art design is jon clarke AKA ArbitraryReason, and if you don't know him by now all you should do is just look at the highest rated scores of this site:)
the nice thing about deKorator it's that it loads is images from
some user defined directory(something quiet similar to what iceWM is doing ),
thats means that everything is themeable with no time and no programming knowledge is needed.
one thing to note is that if you would like to see the changes instantly when designing the tiles, you need to run "kwin --replace&".

few notes:
when installing the new version, log out and login back, or run "kwin --replace&" to load the new version.
if for some reason some options dont seem to work, remove your old kwindeKoratorrc file and let deKorator produce a new one.

i will update my site with some more documentation, samples, template-themes, and other usefull stuff for the theme makers,
so don't forget to check it out, it will be located in the "goodies" directory.

how to install new theme - there r 3 ways to install new theme I'll name them out,

1 - downlad theme tarball and extract it to $HOME/.kde/share/apps/deKorator/themes

2 - download theme tarball, go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" push button, you'll be presented with a dialog box, enter your theme URL or just use the little push button to locate your theme on your file system.

3 - go to kde-look and search for some 0.2 deKorator theme, in the theme post right click on the download link and "copy link address", then just go to deKorator "themes" tab push the "install new theme" button and paste the link onto the address bar, deKorator will download and install it for you.

most importent after any installation type, if you'd like to use the theme you need to press on the "set theme path's" push button.

And PLEASE if you got any comment good or bad, suggestion, feature request, other tiling format idea, please feel free to shout it...

10x to eyal the project is hosted now at www.cheetux.org.il, you could also find there some theme's i've ported from 0.1 to 0.2.

Changelog:

*better masking, for how to use it properly look at the Bushido-Yellow-theme inside the tarball.
*new hue colorizing method, proposed by Azzali Matteo AKA mattepiu.
*if supplied transparent images deKorator will fill it with the style background color, this will allow some "powder" style windec, this idea was proposed by the autor of powder,Remi VillatelAKA Maxilys.
*support for title bar wheel mouse action as introduced in kde 3.5.1, patch supplied by Morten Johansson.
*global themes support, this feature allows rpms and debs builders to build themes packages as proposed by loki, deKorator will look for the global themes at $KDEDIR/share/apps/deKorator/themes.
*much more configureabilty when regarding to active and inactive decos and buttons.
*custom colors for buttons.
*new theme The K-style:Infinity-theme, done by Zoran Karavla, included in the tarball and shown in the screenshots.
* few other options in the config dialog.

for full changelog see file CHANGELOG within the tarball.

 Does not compile

by Laechler on: Jan 14 2006

Score 50%

Hello,
i have Mandrive installed. The MDK-RPM installed, but crashed when opening the configuration-menu. So i have tried the fix. ./configure worked, but make gave back:
In file included from deKoratorclient.cc:14:
deKoratorclient.h:26:25: error: kdecoration.h: file not found
deKoratorclient.h:27:32: error: kdecorationfactory.h: file not found
So I got the source-file, but compiling this gave the same error.
What can i Do?
Thanks a lot in advance

This app looks sweet and I finally have everything compiled but when I attempt to apply the deKorator theme my whole window boarder disappears.

I have googled far and wide but many references have said to look at the installation instructions and documentation. I can't access your site to get the instructions and the tarball I downloaded doesn't appear to have anything under the docs section.

Is there another link I can get the installation instructions and documentation from?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

 Working great now

Its working great now and major praise to you for a sweet little app...

FYI for anyone who runs in to a problem after installation, I had to install with root permissions so it created/changed some permissions in my .kde directory. The easy solution for me was to (as root or using sudo):

"chown -R yourusername.yourgroupname .kde/"

Of course, run this from your home directory, don't use the quotes and substitute yourusername.yourgroupname with the appropriate values (ls -ld .kde should show you what they are supposed to be).

Again, sweet app and keep up the great work.

 Masks for all images

by MistaED on: Jan 23 2006

Score 50%

Hey nice KWIN window decoration! It inspired me to make my own. Just one little problem I'm having with it: the masks seem to only work with the corners.

I've made the frame a 5-pixel magenta with the appropriate maskings and they still appear magenta. I did this because i wanted to have no frame what so ever and have kompmgr show shadows. But the problem with no frame usually is that you can't manipulate it. So what better way than to make an invisible frame! So when you want to increase the size of the window, you drag from the illusion of the dropshadow.

Sadly it doesn't seem to work but if you can manage to add masks for everything, that would be great!

Hi,
well i'm not fully understand what u mean if u dont mind please explain in some more detail , masks can only be set for the corners ATM, but if u want no borders then just put no images or NULL ones, the problem with that is that it will be hard to catch the window, the grip width is calculated from the border width but i'll have a fix for that in the next release

Yeah I know I could do that, but that was the purpose of this test mockup which I made: to be able to have no borders but still have grip. So when the shadow overlays under it, you place the cursor on the shadow (really the invisible 5 pixel border) for grip. I'm glad that you're working on this problem and I look forward to the next release :)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
