Description:

This is a mockup of extenders the way i would love to see them in kde 4.

first my mockups are based on this awesome mockup: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=28476

Screenshot 1 shows a status field of the copying process. instead of open a popup right in the center of the screen that annoys the user, in my mockup the user can track the process in the corner and keep on working.

Screenshot 2 continues this principle. so if a new medium is deteced this notification doesnt pop up in the user face and the user can ignore this popup if it isnt important to him. Otherwise if he need this notification he still has it.

this principle can be expended in many ways.

Screenshot 3 shows a mockup of a system update just with extenders in three steps.

Changelog:

February 6th 2006 - changed the category from KDE Improvements to KDE 4 Brainstorm

small bug fixes at all screenshots and added screenshot 3

Yea I like this pretty much. But this looks like just too Vista alike to me, there's even some gnome in it.

Just "remove" vista feeling and it's going to be realy good.

Just some positive criticism ;)

Looks fine, but pleace don't reinvent clippy!
Common tasks should be easy to do, but they shouldn't be put in a menu with "here are the stuff you can do"

Actually, i think the new medium dialog is fine as long as it follows these rules:

1. It shouldn't pop-up automatcally, only blink

2. it should allow you to set a default when you make a choice

*thank you ibc, it was my first post

great job and great idea, but i've got something to add.

i think that notifier should play a more general role, what i want to say is that it would be used also by non-kde apps (if the developers of those apps would like to link their apps with the notifier instead of showing pop-ups in cases of errors or something like that),

for example (non-kde apps):
*Instant Messaging clients such as aMSN, skype, gaim etc (when a contact comes online, a new message etc),
*www-clients like firefox, opera, flock etc (when updates are available, new messages, rss etc),
*music/video players like xmms, totem (showing current song/film).

i think it would be great if it is going to be integrated with KDE4.

This would turn the KDE desktop much more tidy and functional, especially the grouping funtion of copy/download progress indicators! Good!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
