Description:

This is a mockup of extenders the way i would love to see them in kde 4.

first my mockups are based on this awesome mockup: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=28476

Screenshot 1 shows a status field of the copying process. instead of open a popup right in the center of the screen that annoys the user, in my mockup the user can track the process in the corner and keep on working.

Screenshot 2 continues this principle. so if a new medium is deteced this notification doesnt pop up in the user face and the user can ignore this popup if it isnt important to him. Otherwise if he need this notification he still has it.

this principle can be expended in many ways.

Screenshot 3 shows a mockup of a system update just with extenders in three steps.

Changelog:

February 6th 2006 - changed the category from KDE Improvements to KDE 4 Brainstorm

small bug fixes at all screenshots and added screenshot 3

I like the idea of having small notifications in taskbar of ongoing background activities instead of lot's of windows :-)

but I think an extender that pops up and does not go away is still annoying -- could it auto-hide like KNotification, but still be available in the taskbar, do you think?

that looks really good in my opinion, especially the copy dialog. However, for the new media found: I would make ALL icons the same size, not the "default" one with a bigger icon, that looks awful.

I like it very much!

It looks nice and doesn't use much space unlike Windows vista!

Vista is ugly in comapare to this!

good work ;)

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
