This is a mockup, obviously. I tried to obtain something a bit more polished than what we can see today on our desktops.
I focused on a new style (if anyone is interested to code it tell me since I can't code) and on the way a filebrowser could work.

(the only artworks not by me in the pic are the icq and jabber icons, I wish to thanks their authors)

 Greatest KDE mockup!

Well, as far as I can say this is the greatest mockup of KDE presented until today. It is smooth, fresh, clear and readable.

It is true that it has something from Gnome, OSX and maybe even Vista, but I don't think this is something that we should blame. Integrating the best ideas of all the "others" and adapting them to the needs of KDE will make KDE a professionaly looking interface and will open the way to new users.

As a Linux Newbie I think this is fantastic. It has a simple, clean, well laid out look that I find very inviting. It also looks slick enough to make me want to move full time to Linux from Mac. Yes its just that beautiful!

 trees still the way?

your idea is stellar, and of course beautiful. but after experiencing the SLED 10 menu, i find the almost contextual-like nature of it a welcome orderly and easy change- not really a criticism, but is the tree system menu still the best?

I think your action-based desktop menu is a great idea.
I like too the idea of a file-based desktop experience instead of an application-based desktop.

I don't like the tree based menu at all. It hopefully will soon be a thing of the past. The file bowser looks good with the preview on the right and navigation left. I think instead of view/edit it should have a bunch of open with options.

I liked this mockup so much, I've made a GTK+ theme based on it!

I tried to make this theme for KDE, but was unable too (KDE is more difficult than GTK to create themes/custom widgets).

Feel free to use it along with KDE, or whatever. Thanks for giving me inspiration ;)

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
