Minimum required   KDE 3.5.x
Downloads:  5664
Submitted:  Apr 3 2005
Updated:  Jul 10 2006

Description:

KDesktop Menu is a replacement menu for use with kicker (KDE). It was inspired
from the Gnome menu applet.... heavily.

Requirements:
- KDE 3.5
- QT 3.3

INSTALL:

./configure
make
su -c "make install"

TODO:

Please read the TODO file for information of planned features as well as my requests for comments on suggested features.

BUGS:

Currently a bug exists when KDeskopMenu is placed horizontally on the bottom of the bar. On first click, the menu pops up at an incorrect position.

If it crashes, configure with --enable-debug=full and then start kicker in konsole.

Changelog:

0.3 - July 09, 2006
ADD: Display the KDM user face icon where the "Switch User" icon is displayed.
ADD: Storage Media expands to show all in media:/ (Filters out hdd/nfs/smb)
(rossoft, kde-look.org)
CHG: Make the Switch User information more human readable.
FIX: Crash bug when trying to edit the menu in certain instances
FIX: Make compile and work with KDE 3.5.X

0.2.1 - June 05, 2005
FIX: Applet crashed on start when the kicker session was brand new.
CHG: Re-created the build system files in hopes of solving the undefined
macros problem

0.2 - May 30, 2005
ADD: Actions and Desktop menu's contents mostly configurable.
ADD: Actions Menu now uses all possible menu extentions.
ADD: KMenu icon can now be disabled.
CHG: Remove need for KInstance in About stuff...
CHG: Reworked the class inheritance to speed up compilation.
FIX: The location of the menubar on a bottom horizontal panel.
FIX: Minor bugs were fixed.
FIX: User Switching wasn't working when 2+ sessions were already started
FIX: Many code clean ups.

0.1.2 - Apr. 03, 2005
FIX: Infinite loop caused if the user has disabled the Side pixmap in
kickerrc. What a typo heh

0.1.1 - Apr. 02, 2005
ADD: More includes and debug statements, looking for the cause of a crash.

0.1 - Apr. 02, 2005
Initial release.

 Problem

It looks like a great applet, but I am having a problem. I have compiled (in Slackware) it from source and received NO error messages, however I can't seem to find the applet when I right-click on the kicker to add it as an applet. Where's it at?

 Suggestion

This is a very good KDE improvement. There are some extremely nifty features here -- I *love* how the default web browser and email client are dynamically generated in the menu.

The one thing I would suggest would be to follow Fitt's law a little more for better usability. That is, if this applet is placed in one of the 4 corners of the screen, clicking in that respective corner should open the menu adjacent to that corner.

Keep up the good work, I hope this great applet doesn't get abandoned!

 Must-have features

I think this applet lacks only three things to be perfect: 1. changing background color 2. editing existing menues 3. creating new menues If you can make that happen, then I will be sold! :P

 OK so now what?

I've installed it, but where is it? How do I start it? Is it supposed to replace the K Menu automatically? I'm not seeing anything different than what I saw before installation.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
