Depends on  KDE 3.5.x
Downloads:  5663
Submitted:  Apr 3 2005
Updated:  Jul 10 2006

Description:

KDesktop Menu is a replacement menu for use with kicker (KDE). It was inspired
from the Gnome menu applet.... heavily.

Requirements:
- KDE 3.5
- QT 3.3

INSTALL:

./configure
make
su -c "make install"

TODO:

Please read the TODO file for information of planned features as well as my requests for comments on suggested features.

BUGS:

Currently a bug exists when KDeskopMenu is placed horizontally on the bottom of the bar. On first click, the menu pops up at an incorrect position.

If it crashes, configure with --enable-debug=full and then start kicker in konsole.

Changelog:

0.3 - July 09, 2006
ADD: Display the KDM user face icon where the "Switch User" icon is displayed.
ADD: Storage Media expands to show all in media:/ (Filters out hdd/nfs/smb)
(rossoft, kde-look.org)
CHG: Make the Switch User information more human readable.
FIX: Crash bug when trying to edit the menu in certain instances
FIX: Make compile and work with KDE 3.5.X

0.2.1 - June 05, 2005
FIX: Applet crashed on start when the kicker session was brand new.
CHG: Re-created the build system files in hopes of solving the undefined
macros problem

0.2 - May 30, 2005
ADD: Actions and Desktop menu's contents mostly configurable.
ADD: Actions Menu now uses all possible menu extentions.
ADD: KMenu icon can now be disabled.
CHG: Remove need for KInstance in About stuff...
CHG: Reworked the class inheritance to speed up compilation.
FIX: The location of the menubar on a bottom horizontal panel.
FIX: Minor bugs were fixed.
FIX: User Switching wasn't working when 2+ sessions were already started
FIX: Many code clean ups.

0.1.2 - Apr. 03, 2005
FIX: Infinite loop caused if the user has disabled the Side pixmap in
kickerrc. What a typo heh

0.1.1 - Apr. 02, 2005
ADD: More includes and debug statements, looking for the cause of a crash.

0.1 - Apr. 02, 2005
Initial release.

 Click on Icon

could you make it like this?
http://dot.kde.org/1006857856/1006886454/1006886739/Wish-Kicker.png

please make the icon work! means, icon+text should be click-able. e.g., [K]Start, click on [K] icon or [Start] text should work without any problem.

Please make Text+Icons work together! thanks.

I have worked on it again, and I still can't figure out how to do that. Trust me, that was what I wanted to do. Either QMenuBar is bugged or I'm too stupid to figure it out. It's most likely the latter.

According to that output, the menu should be running? You clicked on the Programs menu right?

If it only crashed the first time, like was described a few posts below, I've begun working on finding the problem

Thanks

Same problem here (Ubuntu breeze). Although it only happens when I log in to the session. If I add the applet again, It works.

Great work anyway, althoug I miss the entry with network folders of the previous version. Is that feature going to come back?

Thanks.

The Network Folder menu is only shown if you have enabled it in "Kcontrol->Desktop->Panels -- Menus"

Thanks for the heads up that it won't run on first login, that should help narrow the places to look for problems.

I don't care if it is from gnome I have seen this in old gnomes and this newer 2.10 thingy.. I hope this works... Going to try it now... Thanks a lot! Is might be that improvisation I have been missing...

There was a problem in my last release with a person running a CVS build and it would exhibit the exact same behaviour.

I won't support CVS KDE installs because if you grabbed from HEAD (or whatever it is now) it's a moving target. I'm sure you understand.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
