KDE SVG - Konqui

Submitted:  Dec 27 2004
Updated:  Jan 5 2005

Description:

SVG wallpaper featuring Konqui, the KDE mascot. The catchphrase "enjoy the experience" was borrowed from the Konqui animation by Basse (http://kimppu.org/basse/kde), from which I also got the initial inspiration for this WP.

Made with Inkscape .40.

Please leave comments or suggestions.

Included in the package:
* SVG file
* 1024x768 PNG (with translucent background)

Changelog:

1.3:
* Kept on playing with the eyes, seeking a more vivid look
* Fixed text typography a little

1.2:
* Put new pupils in Konqui's eyes, hopefully they won't be scary this time (/me prays)

1.1, aka "plain eyes":
* After some thought I've decided to remove the pupils from Konqui's eyes, making it safer for viewing (it was reported to be scary before :P)
* Retouched the wings

1.0:
* Made background more "stylish" plus other details

0.9:
* Made some readjustments to achieve a more professional overall look
* Included 1024x768 PNG w/transparency in package (couldn't include 1600x1024 version because of file size limit)
* Removed transparent screenshot due to file size constraint (300k max)

0.8:
Note: Dropped original version (see link in description), therefore this becomes the "core" version.
* Made Konqui full-bodied, the floating head looked weird
* Reduced white and added a dark strip at the bottom
* Minor rearrangements and general polish

I think this is very nice, hope it will make its road to KDE 3.4 soon!

I have only one minor complain: the slogan "enjoy the experience" is a very bland and generic one, something that people won't remember that long and it's not at all related to KDE. How about the classic "Conquer your desktop"?

The slogan is actually a minor tribute to Basse, who made a beautiful PR animation for KDE featuring Konqui not long ago (http://kimppu.org/basse/kde). In it he used the same slogan.

I know it sounds too generic, and the word "experience" might even be associated with Win "XP" in people's mind, yet I don't dislike it.

Anyway, you could always dowload the SVG, edit it at will and post it back, remember this is GPLed.

Thanks for your comment!

Maybe you should make a version with "plain" eyes, just a simpler one.

Hm... I don't know. I just tried removing the pupil from the eyes, and it looks just fine. The problem is that I like it either way, so I'm not sure which version to keep...

I like this one better:D great work.
But maybe you should just keep both version, I mean, Linux it's about choice:)

This one was already "forked" once, I'd rather not do it again :P

Thanks for your suggestion on the eyes!

Err.. now it is scary! I mean, without the pupils, konqui now seems a sort of a creepy ghost!
I think you could make it more friendly and nice, Konqui is a good dragon, you know.. :p
Look how he's sweet here

Oh, man, this is becoming a huge dilema. Would it be fine if I included both versions in the package? Please give me some advice.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
