Description:

weAreGear is an SVG Wallpaper created with Inkscape 0.40. The idea is that KDE is here to stay, and nothing will change that. The wallpaper has a transparent background allowing you to choose any color from your desktop environment. It is made to look good with almost any color background, but I recommend the use of blues, greens, or purples of varying saturations and values.

I would like to ask anyone with a pre-release of KDE 3.4 to test out the wallpaper and let me know how well it renders. If it doesn't look just like the screenshots, please let me know.

Changelog:

0.4.2 - Added some slight detail (missing lines), removed obsolete screenshots, and added png version at:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=19510
...as requested by some of you.
0.4.1 - Made further modifications to background gradients, and brightened up the letters "KDE" (see screenshot 1)
0.4 - Many changes...
* Slogan removed
* 1's & 0's removed
* Gear enlargened
* various 'sparks' and bubbles repositioned
* background gradients modified
* sparkles simplified
These changes were made based on the suggestions of several of you. They are meant to give a simpler, less distracting, more elegant look. Cutting down on render time was also a consideration. I would like to thank you all for your helpful advice.

0.3 - First released version.

0.2 - (Never released) Was more colorful, had gradient problems, and didn't look very good on very light, or very dark backgrounds.

0.1 - (Never released) The first black-and-white-line layout

Thanks for the encouragement! My art is pretty much done in my spare time, but I'll see what I can do. I hope to keep putting stuff out for a long time to come.

This is definitely one of the nicest I've seen so far for the competition. Excellent work. The artwork is superb, but I' think it'd be even better with either different words are none at all. Just my thoughts ;)

I also think it might be a bit distracting. Maybe less contrast or not so many numbers on the left. I think you're on the right track though!!

I was unsure whether I should include the slogan, myself. I definitely don't want this to be a political wallpaper. I just thought it was clever, rhymed, and so what the hay... I included a version without the slogan for this very reason. Maybe those that comment can clarify which they prefer? With or without the slogan?

i would remove it if i were you.

its not something id like to have on my monitor with someone looking over my shoulder, if you know what i mean...

and then some people might mark it down because they disagree with the original form of the slogan.

I felt you gave me some good advice here, so I followed it. It's a bit of a shame, though. I mean, it *was* kinda clever... oh, well :-)

 Best SVG so far

IMO this is the best SVG wallpaper
that has entered the competition
so far. And the cool thing is:
It is far easier to modify these
things since they are vector-based.
So anyone complaining about the
slogans? Why not move them,
remove them, edit them, change
their color, etc. Its just great
to play around with SVGs even
if you are not that talented to
create one from scratch.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
 Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
 I do not like some of the changes.
 KDE is taking the wrong way.
 I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
 I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
