Submitted:  Mar 14 2013
Updated:  Aug 22 2014

Description:

nouveKDEGray is a gray KDE icon set designed for use ONLY with sufficiently dark color schemes. With dark styles, it can change the look and feel of KDE considerably. It also includes a lot of extra places icons, that can be used to distinguish special folders.

Note:
=====
Some nonnative apps do not respect the icon theme specification and may not select their icons from the theme. Apart from such cases, if you have installed a KDE or Qt app (or any desktop-agnostic app) whose icon is not included in the set, please tell me!

Changelog:

Dec 8 2014
------------
A few new app icons.
Added an rcc file to the SMPlayer theme.

Sep 19 2014
------------
Symlinks and icons for KDE-4.14.
A few new app icons.

Aug 21 2014
------------
Changed and added a few icons.

OK, with the next update.
BTW, KTorrent is much better than Transmission ;)

 Some more?

Thanks for the very fine work. You might perhaps consider these too:

Octopi (a very fine graphical package manager of Manjaro which can be used in other Arch based distros as well.

Cantata (The best audio player, an mpd client.)

Kid3 / Kid3-qt (Very fine audio tagger.)

MakeMKV (The great and only DVD/Bluray to mkv converter.)

Mkvtoolnix

LuckyBackUp (The best backup utility.)

Qgmailnotifier (Old but reliable gmail notifier which doesn't require Kwallet.)

ReText (Markdown editor)

Expoblending, Open in Raw Editor, Panorama (All, I guess, get installed as parts of Digikam though they just sit under the Kickoff menu.)

Xsane, Qwinff, Yagf, QTFM, Juffed, Sweeper, Qpdfview, ZNotes, Plume Creator, Flirc, Converseen

Thanks so much. By the way, the qgmailnotifier has only a tray icon. I'm very glad to see that you've made an icon for the greatest dictionary app, Goldendict, however its tray icon doesn't honour your implementation. Guess there's nothing to do about this as I've replaced its icon path in its desktop file with yours; not only that, I've replaced the actual icon in pixmaps folder with yours without luck as well.

Some Qt apps use their built-in icons because they're meant to be independent of any desktop environment or even be multi-platform. So their icons can be changed only by modifying their sources and recompiling them. Some of them, like SMPlayer, are themable but even SMPlayer uses its own icon for tray and task manager.

In my opinion, it's a good practice for programmers to use their own icons ONLY after checking the installed theme, and that's very easy to implement in Qt.

Good Job, I love this gray icon theme

I would be happy if you could make a icon for these ones:

Clementine
qBitorrent
JDownloader
Muon Package Manager. Since Muon Update manager has one.

And Thanks for the icon theme. Good Luck

Thanks

Clementine and JDownloader are already included (I just edited the Clementine icon yesterday). Perhaps in your distro, their desktop files refer to a path, in that case, change them to include lines like this:

Icon=clementine
Icon=jdownloader

They should be in /usr/share/applications.

I'll add the other icons in a few days. Thanks!

http://k45.kn3.net/4/7/0/C/3/B/85A.jpg

In this image I'm is using the default Oxygen icon theme

and this one with your theme

I click the stars and they don't change, with others themes they turn yellow

Thank you so much for telling me about that issue. I'll fix it today by giving a yellow color to the icon favorites.png.

Ready, It works properly now.

Just out of curiosity, was yellow the star icon for Kickoff favorites section too? including Lancelot, bookmark plasmoid and "Get More" buttons. I don't know if this was intended or if you will fix that but they will still like me with either of both colors.

Another Issue: The bookmarks plasmoid has the yellow star at small sizes and the white one at bigger sizes.

I think I'm being annoying but I want only to help for possible issues:)

And thanks for the icons of Qbittorrent and Muon package manager. Sorry if my english isn't good enough, I don't like write long sentences because sometimes I kill the english language with my grammar.

On the contrary, your comment was helpful!

> I don't know if this was intended...

Yet it was. I made the favotites icon yellow only for sizes<=48x48 because it may be used as a rating star only with those sizes. I preferred to keep it gray with the greater sizes for the sake of consistency to the gray look and feel of the set.

Now everything should be OK: I colored just the rating stars; the bookmark and favorites icons are all back to gray :) The set is updated at dA.

I really like this theme, no missing icons for now, perfect for my dark theme, simple and clean.

 LibreOffice

I just started up LO and realised how ugly the icons are (I don't know if these are the stock ones?). They do not fit at all into the overall desktop style based on your nice icons! Is there a package with LO icons which match the KDE ones?

Thanks!

If you mean LibreOffice interface icons like Open, Save, Redo..., I agree: they aren't lovely ;) LO interface icons aren't selected from the theme. I'll try to include a separate LibreOffice theme with the next update. Thanks for reminding me!

I just found out that a LibreOffice theme consists of thousands of icons! So, making such a theme would consist in a full project, for which I have neither time nor motive (the result would be only usable with LO, after all).

Please tell me if you find an LO set more compatible with nouveKDEGray. I tolerate the current theme (Oxygen) until I find a sort of workaround.

Today I installed libreoffice-style-hicontrast and chose it from Tools > Options > View > Icon size and style. High Contrast is the most acceptable set I could find. Its icons can be seen clearly with dark color schemes.

Hello,
It's a very nice icon set.

Can you add ome more specific mimetypes.
ex: multimedia icons.

Thanks.

Thanks for your comment!

The set already has more than 410 mimetype icons for each size, while Oxygen has less than 270. Please give me the names of mimetypes you didn't find in the set and want to be added to it!

and for video mimetype also.

btw don't forget "Curlew" icon :)

I didn't find some type differentiations practical as they wouldn't add to usability but just make the set heavier. For example, it's good to differentiate between SVG and PNG (as the set does) but not necessarily between PNG and JPG. After all, Dolphin and most advanced file managers show those details clearly.

The same could be said about audio and video, although there are about 7 different icons for the most common audio types and 6 for videos. But, for example, I didn't find any benefit in making two different icons for ASF and AVI, which are both Windows types.

Apps have a different story. I'll add the Curlew icon(s). Please also tell me about any other app whose icon you didn't find in the set, provided that its use is meaningful under KDE or any other Qt-based DE.

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
