Absolutely stunning! This is simply amazing work!! Very, very, very well done. Voted positive (how could I not?).

It takes less time to take the time to do it right the first time, than it does to fix it the second time.

Can we have an OpenSuse version ? (or a generic version, not only "kubuntu")

It is in progress. I have already replaced Kubuntu words with "Loading" and "Steam-powered Linux" and changed gears in the center so it looks less similar to Kubuntu logo now. You have only to wait until animation is re-rendered (a couple of weeks I suppose) :)

That's superb, looking forward to the distribution agnostic version. Is that possible for the splash theme too?

Yes,my main target is KSplash. KDM background is just one frame of animation required for KSplash

 Some Wrinkles

On my system, where the animation png's overlap, the animation effect is blocked. For example, where the footprint of lamps.png overlaps that of dynamo.png, the rotation of dynamo.png is suppressed (but only where they overlap - so part of the text rotates while the upper right quadrant stays fixed). Parts of some of the other gears appear "stuck", etc. Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi!
I've noticed similar problems in other overlapped animations and had to change these animations so they do not overlap, but dynamo and lamps are working fine on my system. May be it is some problem of KSplash engine. Can you provide more detailed description of your system, like OS, screen resolution?

Paladin...here is my configuration:

CPU ID: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9650 @ 3.00GHz
GPU ID: GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+
nVidia Driver version: 270.41.06
video RAM: 512KB (resolution set at: 2560 x 1600)
Note: 2560x1600 and 1920x1200 are both 1.6:1

Kernel version: 2.6.34.8-0.2-desktop
openSuSe version: 11.3
Xorg version: 1.8.0
Qt version: 4.6.3
KDE version: 4.4.4
java version: 1.6.0_26-b0
gcc version: 4.5.0 20100604

Looking carefully at the "frozen" elements of the animations, wherever there is an overlap, any animation within the overlapped area stops animating. Since the png's are rectangles, it is where a corner of a png overlaps an animated ("moving") part of another png that the animation is stopped. For example, where the lower left corner of lamps.png overlaps the upper right corner of dynamo.png, the letters STEAMPU do not rotate (while the rest of the letters in dynamo.png continue rotating). This happens in several other area of this beautiful theme. If I can be of any more help, please left me know...Jeff

Thank you very much for details. I understand why it may work in such a way, but don't know why it works correctly in some places with overlap while failing in others.
BTW, do you have the same problem in overlapping area of lights.png and gears.png?
I have almost prepared distro-neutral version of this theme, so if I have time, I will test it on your resolutions also. If I am able to reproduce this issue, I will try to fix it.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
