This item is a part of Steam-Powered Linux KDE theme set.

The idea is to apply steampunk style to every themeable part of KDE-based distro. Any constructive feedback is highly appreciated. I will try to implement your propositions/fix bugs once I have spare time.

Parts of this set currently available:
KDM: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=142139
KSplash: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=142138
QtCurve: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=148276
Dark color scheme: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/SteampunK+Color+Scheme?content=148277
Light color scheme: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/SteampunK+Light+Color+Scheme?content=155868
Wallpapers: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Steampunk+Wallpapers?content=149320
Plasma Desktop theme: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=157926

You can see KDM and KSplash demo video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3ubaXe8wDE
New video will be recorded as soon as the majority of work is done.

KSplash theme notes:
You may encounter weird grey dots during first time you run this theme. It happens when KSplash engine resizes PNG images with transparent pixels on the fly. After resized files are cached, these dots will disappear.

01/15/2012. Added QtCurve and Color Scheme to theme set. Updated appearance of KDM and KSplash themes

10/15/2011. Added Plymouth theme to theme set

Wow, this is really cool!

If only... there were no Kubuntu lettering, I'm a Gentoo user. What about making a version for every major distribution? Quite some work, yes, but many more people might want to use it then.

Thanks! For animation I used unbiased renderer (LuxRender) that takes almost a day to render one frame in acceptable quality, while there are 30 of them. I suppose, if I add letters even for major distributions, it will take more time than I can spare. But! I suppose I may replace "Kubuntu" letters with neutral words like "Loading" and "Steam Powered" :) However, the center element of theme is in fact animated Kubuntu logo. If it is not a problem, I will try to find time to change words and re-render animation.
Also I want to create another OS-neutral steampunk theme, inspired by steampunk style itself (this one was inspired by gears in Kubuntu logo). This is just an idea for now, because I'm doing it in spare time and I don't have it much now. I will try to estimate how people like such style judging on rating for this theme.

 Wonderful work.

Congratulations for the wonderful work!

If i can make a suggestion, some animated and illuminated objects of the screen can start moving and sparkling as the system is completing the loading, specially the pressure (or what it is) gauge in the right, this last can show the completion of the startup.

Best regards !

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
