Pulse

   0.3.1

KDE Improvement

Score 81%
Pulse
zoom

Depends on  KDE 4.x
Downloads:  548
Submitted:  Apr 7 2010
Updated:  Apr 13 2010

Description:

A KWin effect to show new windows like the Plasma "pulse" effect.

It's difficult to capture the effect on screen. Instead, please add a Plasma widget to desktop, then you'll see how the effect looks like when it appears.

INSTALL:
Extract the package first. In the extracted directory, run:
./configure
Then please follow instructions on screen.

If you are updating from an older version of this effect, also run:
kwin --replace&
to restart KWin.

Changelog:

0.3.1 (2010-04-13):
* Bug fix: don't animate combo-box pulldowns.

0.3 (2010-04-13):
* Add a matching "Scale Out" effect.

0.2 (2010-04-08):
* Add a configuration dialog.

Works good, and looks good. Great work!
It's just too distracting for me to use :p

Me too, LOL.

That said, I do think Plasma has many nice tricks that should be ported to the rest of KDE. E.g., that "toolbox" which pops from the side of widgets, I'd like to make a similar window decoration.

wow this looks cool. :)

i made an archlinux package: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=36247

Some suggestions and questions:

Would it be possible to make the effect more configurable, e.g. less animation radius, slower and so on.

And a feature to disable this effect for some windowclasses would be nice, cause yakuake with this effect is not fun. ;)

Nice ideas. Surely it's possible. Need to learn how to do config UI, but shouldn't be too hard.

Looks like the KDE version is too low. The source code is based on KDE 4.4.2, so probably won't work on KDE 4.3. Sorry.

just add

static const int WindowAddedGrabRole = 1;

somewhere on top of the file or in the private section of the header - the enum has gone from svn.

Checked the SVN --- the enum is still there in kwineffect.h. Strange...

i then don't know and assume the reporter uses 4.3 - not 4.4.3 :P

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
