 Slow scrolling

by HalationEffect on: Mar 28 2012
Score 50%

Been using Oxygen KDE for a few months now without problems, until I upgraded to FF 11.0 when all of a sudden scrolling (either with the mouse wheel, keyboard arrows or scroll buttons) became very laggy & slow. There is a noticeable delay between rolling the mouse wheel or pressing up/down arrows and the page actually scrolling.

Updating to Oxygen KDE 3.8 hasn't fixed this problem. Switching to a different theme fixes the scrolling lag, but I like Oxygen KDE better than any other theme I've seen.

I'm not seeing anyone else reporting this problem, so I guess it might be something odd about my setup - anyone got any ideas of what I might try to fix it? Any known issues with other add-ons?

Could you try with a clean firefox profile?

OK, just created an empty test profile, and installed Oxygen KDE 3.8 on that profile. I didn't install any other extensions or themes, and I left all of the Oxygen KDE Options on their default settings.

Scrolling is now very slightly faster - it isn't quite as slow as it is on my main profile, but it's still noticeably slower than the default theme.

I even tried turning off Kwin compositing, but that made no difference.

In case it helps with the troubleshooting process, I'm running Kubuntu 11.10 with Nvidia binary blob graphics drivers.

I can confirm this as well on two systems, one using the NVIDIA binary driver and the other using Intel graphics. Since I have a rather fast system, the lower framerate while scrolling using Oxygen KDE isn't a deal-breaker, but it is very noticeable in a back-to-back comparison between Oxygen KDE and the default theme (along with a few others I installed). Having a 100 Hz refresh on my display probably makes the difference even more obvious. Some sites are worse than others, but I've found that the Oxygen KDE website is a good one for testing the scrolling framerate (http://oxygenkde.altervista.org/).

Yes I noticed the difference too .. The performance issue it's an important problem so in the next days I'll do some performance related tests to determine what cause this and if it can be resolved.

Jimmy, you probably don't hear it enough, but I (and I'm sure countless others) am so grateful for the work you've done on this theme. You have done a truly beautiful job! I can't wait to see what your magic can do to Thunderbird. God bless :)

BTW, if the performance issue turns out to be related to the custom scrollbars, perhaps you could add an option to use the system default scrollbars. On KDE systems with oxygen-gtk installed, the scrollbars will look the same anyway.

Oh please, please fix this or bring the option to use the default scrollbars. It's the upmost importance that a Add-On doesn't slow down the actual browsing experience. Nice extension, I love the design, but this bug is truly a show stopper!
I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1100T (very fast) and fglrx graphic driver and the difference is absolutely clear.

I don't know if this will help figure out the cause of the problem, but just in case:

When I was running FF10 with Oxygen KDE 3.7, scrolling was fine... except when viewing the Addons manager page, where the scrolling was very slow.

Now running FF11 + OxyKDE 3.8, and slow scrolling affecting all web pages in addition to the Addon manager; one thing I do notice is that if I tap the down arrow on my keyboard, the scrollbar moves down almost instantly, but I estimate that a few hundred milliseconds passes before the actual page content scrolls down. Also, if I hold down the down arrow key, the page content continues scrolling for around 1/2 a second after I stop pressing the key.

About small toolbar icons in Oxygen KDE 3.8

Thanks for an another cool release :) But I've gotta say this new version came with questions, for example:
As it can be seen in the above screenshot (had a little css hack to display both buttons), it is not possible to understand whether the small buttons are enabled or not at the first look. Is this the supposed behaviour or a bug? Actually the prev button is enabled but it looks absolutely the same with next button, which is disabled.

Before 3.8, they looked as:

 Toolbar ALWAYS visible

by dustbln on: Apr 21 2012
Score 50%

I really love this Theme and I know this is not a bug but a feature, but it is really annoying that the Addon sets dom.disable_window_open_feature.toolbar to true again and again for those that still have a titlebar. I prever to have popups without toolbar. The code is inside chrome/oxygenkdeoptions/content/overlay.js (starts at 2217). Would be great if this could be configurable! Thanks!

How do you like Plasma 5?
 The best KDE Desktop ever.
 Definitely a nice improvement.
Not decided yet. Haven't tried it yet.
I do not like some of the changes.
KDE is taking the wrong way.
I am still sticking with KDE 3.5.
I have no opinion, but wanted to vote anyway.
