 new Features

by hermenj on: Sep 4 2004

Hi

First: Cynapses is the Coolest Thing i ever Saw! It really Rocks!

I just added two new Features to the Theme:

"Network Hosts"
shows the Status (on / offline ) and the ping-time off/to other Computers.

"Samba Status"
shows which User is using which Share of your local running Samba-Server.

I allthough changed some things for the sensor part etc. of the theme.

The modified theme with all my changes can be found here:
http://www.fsai.fh-trier.de/~hermenj/software/cynapses.tar.gz

or juyt take a look at the Screenshot first:

greets from Germany
Johannes

P.S. Does anybody knows where to get the Icons of the Cynapses Theme, or if there are any other Icons like this?

 some improvements

by davejumpers on: Sep 14 2004

I changed "program" to use eth0, so that you don't depend on /sbin/ip

################################################################################
# Network
################################################################################
x=10 y=275
text x=70 y=2 value="IP:" color=185,36,36 fontsize=10 font="nimbus sans l"
text x=85 y=2 sensor=program program="/sbin/ifconfig eth0 |grep 'inet addr' |awk '{print $2}'| sed -e 's/.*addr://'" color=0,0,0 fontsize=10 font="nimbus sans l"

Also the sensor types do not allow spaces, so in my case, sensors needed "CPU Temp". So I went and changed /etc/sensors.conf so that it says "CPU_Temp"
Not really your fault, but I though I would mention it.

Other that that, this rocks.

##################
#Firewall

x=10 y=625

text x=80 y=10 value="Firewall" color=0,0,0 align=left fontsize=12 font="nimbus sans l"
text x=10 y=30 sensor=program program="/usr/local/bin/fire.sh" color=0,0,0 align=left fontsize=10 font="nimbus sans l" interval=30000

------------------------------

fire.sh
/usr/bin/tail -n 5 /var/log/firewall/current |grep DPT | sed -e 's/.*SRC=//' | awk '{print "SRC=" $1 " " $10 " " $11}'

--------------------

the firewall log dir must have read persmissionf for your user.
fire.sh should be executable and stuff.

I put this instead of Mail.

I don't know about you guys, but I can't download the "cynapses karamba v2-beta" package. I love and use the regular one so I'm anxious to see the next version.

 Not too bad...

I had to do a bit of moving about of things but it works pretty good (added MAC display as well as subnet).

What I would like to know is how to get the mail to work... using suse 9.1 pro and perl is there but it just doesnt do a thing. I checked the account settings and what have you so I am drawing a blank.

FYI if anybody is curious....

# Added Subnet Mask display 10-16-04 HR
text x=65 y=60 sensor=program program="/sbin/ifconfig eth0 | grep 'Mask' | awk '{print $4}'" color=0,0,0 fontsize=8
# Added MAC address display below 10-16-04 HR
text x=65 y=75 value="MAC:" color=0,0,0 fontsize=8
text x=100 y=75 sensor=program program="/sbin/ip addr show eth0 | grep 'ether ' | cut -d t -f2 | cut -b 5- | cut -b -18" color=0,0,0 fontsize=8

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
