Description:

iChat style for Kopete
----------------------

So I was bored and thought "Wouldn't it be nifty if Kopete looked like iChat?"
and here we are. So far I just have basic grey bubbles, and a fixed text size,
but I want to add more color bubbles, other user icons (or maybe use buddy
icons there, who knows)

You still have to manually set the file path to the images, but you only have
to do it once now, in the image-location variable :)

You can now set a highlight color scheme, so you could have messages with your
name be yellow instead of green, or whatever :)

Unfortunately, because of the way Kopete's XML works, I can't differentiate
between actions FROM you and TO you, like in an IRC channel. So as of now, all
actions show as if they were TO you, even when you do them.

New! Added tagwar's transparent images.
Also, fixed highlighting to not change message color.

Enjoy!

Changelog:

0.3

- Added timestamps
- Added tagwar's transparent images
(Thanks tagwar)

- Added blue, graphite, green, orange, pink, purple, yellow bubbles
- Added several XSL variables, for things from theme selection, to
showing and hiding usernames
- Added seperate display options for system messages and actions

0.1
- To/From grey bubbles
- Tux/User icons for You/Them

Thats awesoeme. I've been waiting for something like this, ever since I got used to using Ichat on my old iBook. Its kinda cheesy, but I got used to it and like it now. Thanks for the style.

one suggestion instead of hardcoding the path to each picture use a xsl variable that way you have to type it only once :)

Heh, like I said, this is my first ever style, and I don't know much about XSL. I'd have to figure out HOW to do XSL variables before I could use one :)

Kopete is awesome, and now I can have different styles for every day of the week. I love the choices.

Could you make a version that would work for a black background as well?

If I could get a screenshot from a real iChat window with a black background. I'm not good enough at image editing to just change this one :)

It looks great! I have but two gripes. First, could you use transparency instead of a white background for the bubble? Second, the theme doesn't work well in chatrooms because the from contact could be anyone. I've got around this by adding contact tooltips on their respective icons. To do this change line #14 from:
<img src="/usr/share/apps/kopete/styles/them.png" height="32" width="32" />

to

<img src="/usr/share/apps/kopete/styles/them.png" height="32" width="32" title="{from/contact/contactDisplayName/@text}" />

and line #144 from:

<img src="/home/evan/.kde/share/apps/kopete/styles/me.png" height="32" width="32" />

to:

<img src="/home/evan/.kde/share/apps/kopete/styles/me.png" height="32" width="32" title="{from/contact/contactDisplayName/@text}" />

If you dont feel like mousing over the icon every time someone in the room says something, you can remove the title attribute and put:

<xsl:value-of disable-output-escaping="yes" select="from/contact/contactDisplayName/@text"/>

before the img tag.

Whoops! It should be /usr/share/ and not /home/evan/.kde/share/.

Great ideas, I've actually been looking into a way of showing names.

In other news, I figured out XSL variables, and I've made several other colors.

However, I don't have the photoshop/etc skills required to turn these images into transparent images.

If someone wanted to contribute new versions once I upload the colors, I'd include them :)

If you have the master files somewhere I might be able to help you.

There are no 'master files'

These were just from screenshots from an OSX box. Or do you want the bubbles without them being chopped up into pieces?

Those I could post.

I didnt expect this to be possible... Kopete rulez, and your work too ;-)

If this is a little bit finished, you might ask the kopete devs to include it?!?!?

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
 It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
 Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
 Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
 Gnome 3 default shell is much better
 I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
 None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
