 Great Stuff!!

by steveke on: Sep 5 2009

Score 50%

I really like this - It's just what I was looking for. It works great in a "fat" vertical panel with "windows can cover" or "auto-hide".

A couple of small issues. One is that for some reason I can't change the colour of fonts in the plotter config. All other colours work as expected.

Second, when I reboot, the plotters don't start running automatically. I have to run the config and just click OK to get them running again.

Anyway, thanks for your work.

Cheers!

I can confirm "reboot problem" in both Complex Plotter and Analog-Meter. However it can be reproduced just by restarting plasma-desktop, reboot is not required.

One thing that should be fixed is that if update interval is e.g. 5 min first data update comes after 5 min and it seems that it does not work, but this happens also when applet is added to the desktop.

Thanks for fixing the font issue.:)

Regarding the starting of plotters, I'm seeing this, for example, on a CPU plotter set every second - maybe there is something system specific causing the problem? I'm using Kubuntu Jaunty with kde 4.3.1

I have the same issue - after KDE starting (Kubuntu Karmic testing) a plotter does nothing. To "activate" it it is sufficient to, say, open plasmoid's config dialog and click "OK" button.

And the init problem ("does nothing: after KDE start) is also fixed with v.0.5 - thanks!

There is still (probably last) problem for me. Say I use ppp0 data recieved and sent for graphs. After ppp0 reconnection the graphs just halts, and I'm forced to restart KDE. Probably some kind of low-frequency (say, 1-5 seconds) polling can be added to reactivate the plotter for newly waked up data sources.

As a workaround - is there a way to restart plasmoids without KDE restarting?

Fine collection! Thanks!

Probably, the most simple variant also can be useful - I mean raw digit display.

Another problem - the plasmoid doesn't dock to vertical (right or left) panel gracefully - it takes all remaining height.

 CPU consumption too high

There is an issue: for a single plotter/graph (ppp0 data, 1sec refresh) the app eats ~12-15% of one CPU core (c2d 2.4GHz).

I believe, but, please, believe me also :-) Probably with different KDE installations (at my case it is up to date Kubuntu Karmic testing) plasmoid initing chains are different - an issue 'does nothing' after KDE start is point to some initing problem also.

Hmm not sure what goes wrong here. What distro and kde version do you have?

Happens in Arch and Mandriva cooker, since the latest pyqt/sip updates. Using KDE 4.3.2

Seems that it happens also with GMail python plasmoid:
Since this happens on multiple python applets this might be a bug in pyqt 4.6 / sip also. I have Arch linux in VirtualBox, but I'm not sure when I have time to debug this more.

Got similar report to analog meter and seems like distro has updated sip/pyqt4 but not pykde4 packages and sip api doesn't match.

Unrtunately at my case v.0.6 doesn't restart a plotting of ppp0 data after restarting pppd.

Seems that if I have eth0 and vboxnet0 and I disconnect/connect vboxnet0 it works but if I only have vboxnet0 it doesn't. Have to investigate further.

Seems that systemmonitor dataengine does not send add/remove correctly at all times. This packet has a hack to go around this:
http://kotisivu.lumonetti.fi/damu0/misc/complex-plotter.plasmoid
Could you test it? I'll check the dataengine later.

Do you like or dislike Ubuntu Unity?
 Yes, unity is alien technology!
It is less confusing than Gnome 3 default, shell.
Granny thinks it is much more usable than Gnome 2
Canonical is embarrasing itself with this split project
Gnome 3 default shell is much better
I dislike Unity, Gnome 3 default shell is alien technology!
None of the above, I like the 2Gb for free and Apple alike behavior. Will post a comment instead
